Great to hear they went down well at the Download festival Roj

Great review Joel, very informative and also well written Clap

I never wondered whether my laptop can play Blu-Ray, but I am wondering now Tongue The blu-ray edition of Anesthetize costs only a little more than the DVD version, and the difference in quality is really worth the money.

i'd buy it, beacuse it comes with both the bluray and dvd, and eventually you'll probably buy a new computer, bluray player or something that can play it. meanwhile you can watch the dvd.

^ Amazon.com says "Blu-Ray+DVD", but the details on the French retailers' websites are quite confusing. Amazon.fr says "DVD" but in the description it also mentions 2 discs, one being "a Blu-Ray disc with many bonuses", while FNAC says "Blu-Ray" without mentioning the DVD or any other details. I'll wait some more until I decide.

The new DVD is selling very well, too! It's doing quite well indeed in Europe. In England, it got to number 9 on the chart! Apparently, Amazon have sold out of copies already! ClapSmile

It would be awesome to jam with someone else who likes PT, too bad you live so far away progkidjoel.  In fact, I don't know of anyone who like PT and plays an instrument around where I live Unhappy.

Man, I need some people to play with as well

Also, IEM boxset arrived this afternoon, on first listen of the first album, awesome so far! Kind of like early PT but more psychedelic and 70's sounding. Awesome stuff.

Just finishing off the first album now, and WOW, it really is great. Very 70's classic prog, but really brilliant overall. Loving this purchase already

^I've got IEM Have Come For Your Children, which I downloaded from Burning Shed. Very trippy, very Krautrock. IEM is kind of like a 'what if?' if PT continued down their psychedelic road rather than exploring the 'song' format.

number 1 in finland! that's cool. i think they're quite big here, last time they played here they were supposed to play at a quite small place, but due to demand they had to move to a bigger one (the helsinki ice hall, where lately motorhead, 50cent, muse and nine inch nails played)

Man, that's great to see PT doing so well. Really happy for them, fantastic stuff!

This boxset could be my favourite purchase of the year so far (). Some really, really funky distached psychedelic stuff on here as well as some really beautiful music. Loving this boxset so far, and the packaging is painfully brilliant, possibly more so than the Anesthetize Sp. Ed .

http://www.myspace.com/incredibleexpandingmindf**k

You'll need to edit the f**k in that URL for it to work

I recommend checking out 'Headphone Dust' and 'The Gospel According To IEM', most of the stuff I've listened to so far has a similar flavour to that.

exclusive porcupine tree concert download available in aid of mick karn:

"This download comprises a complete 2 hour live performance from the Fear of a Blank Planet tour.

The show was recorded and mixed to the usual PT standards in order to provide material for a planned live album, but when the decision was taken to film much of the same repertoire in Holland for a major DVD release instead, the Atlanta recording ended up back in the vault.

Now PT have now decided to make it available in complete form as a download only release in order to raise funds for Mick Karn's treatment for cancer. Although the repertoire is similar to that on the Anesthetize DVD, the performance has its own atmosphere, and also includes the first ever officially released live recording of "A Smart Kid".

The mp3s are high quality 320kbps files and there is a break between tracks 8 and 9 in case you want to burn your own 2 CD set, for which Carl Glover has also provided CD artwork.

Please note that all Porcupine Tree's profits from the sale of the Atlanta download will go directly to the Mick Karn Appeal. Burning Shed's profits will go to Macmillan Cancer Support. "

Tracks

1 Fear of a Blank Planet
 2 What Happens Now?
 3 Sound of Muzak
 4 Sentimental
 5 Drown With Me
 6 Anesthetize
 7 Open Car
 8 Dark Matter

 9 Cheating the Polygraph
 10 A Smart Kid
 11 Blackest Eyes
 12 Half-Light
 13 Way Out of Here
 14 Sleep Together
 15 Even Less
 16 Halo

in absentia is being re-released on vinyl by tonefloat:

"porcupine tree's in absentia deluxe vinyl edition

when released in september 2002, porcupine tree's 7th studio album in absentia not only was their first for a major label (lava/warner) but also the one that added a more heavy sound to the band's already eclectic blend of influences that graced previous albums. a sound that would be explored for most of the decade that had just started, and that opened to a whole new audience. the signing to a major meant that little attention was given to vinyl, as the format was in its dark age at the beginning of the century, and the album was only available on wax through lava/warner in europe for a brief period, in 2003. following classic vinyl editions of fear of a blank planet, the incident, tonefloat now releases porcupine tree's seminal album on vinyl again in a beautiful re-designed package, as always on 180 grams audiophile vinyl.

a regular edition is released on black vinyl, with a special edition of 1,500 copies available on coloured vinyl, and housed in a special spotvarnished gatefold picture sleeve. the release date is set to july 12, and both versions can now be pre-ordered directly from our tonefloat shop."
