Unfortunately I never have heard the radio version although I think I may have heard some of it once... or maybe that was a recent version.
But the film wasn't making me laugh. Zaphod annoyed the crap out of me.
They only have the original 5 or 6 seasons of the radio series, so it must have been from that. I prefer the Hitchhiker's Guide series to the Dirk Gently books, but I love both series. I'm a Douglas Adams fanboy, basically.
Also: Trillian in the new movie was a much better fit than Trillian in the original series: Original series:

In the book it's implied they're next to each other, but that is technically very difficult to impossible. Somebody claimed that compromise was actually Adams' idea.
It was OK, but not that good. A lot of people thought the intro was the best part, and it was certainly the part that was actually creative independent from the book, but I thought it was just annoying.
