I'd never really considered the "experimental" part of that labeling, since most of the group seems to be filled with post metal, but I guess the presence of stuff like Orphaned Land and Devin Townsend seems to advocate DSO's placement there

Oh I see, Experimental is for "The main difference is that the bands listed here are less technical/quirky and generally more calm/mellow than the Avant-Garde bands."

Avant-Garde Metal is under Extreme/Tech.

That might apply in some situations (i.e. Gorguts), but you really can't put DSO in a genre with Meshuggah

Yeah, Diablo Swing seems more like an Experimental/Post.. Theres nothing that makes them overtly extreme or technical.
