Are you complaining about him listening to Meshuggah? Or just surprised?

Fair enough, but I don't even know most of the people on the Nu Jazz Wiki page (and the ones I do I don't know for playing Nu Jazz). I remember liking Spring Heel Jack's live album, but it has Evan Parker, William Parker, and Han Bennick, so it's hardly fair to compare it to Jaga Jazzist or Squarepusher or whatever. I never got into Matthew Shipp, though.

Jaga Jazzist is not very good and squarepusher is god awful. I need to check out some Evan Parker, I also need to check out some of the classics that I haven't got around to.

Surprised. Although hopefully he enjoys it to some degree.

Finally, Echoes.  I've listened to it on PA but now I have it in good sound quality. Big smile

A real conversation:

Me: So James listened to Mastodon and Meshuggah.
Alex: Wow
Me: Is it the apocalypse?
Alex: Not sure
Me: Nah. Not really.
Me: When he listens to Pure Reason Revolution and talks about how musically insightful they are, then it's the apocalypse.

I sympathize with that, but if you don't like those two, what Nu Jazz do you like.

My problem with Evan Parker is that he has about a billion solo saxophone recordings, and those are always the ones that AMG thinks are the best, when his best work is usually with somebody else and that's not always on the AMG entry since he may not be leader. i.e. Machine Gun.

He's in Jazz Fusion for his music with him playing bass, but he has a lot of pure IDM I think.

It seems I've gotten my genres mixed, I meant Jazzcore I guess. I never heard any of the bands listed on the wiki. LOL Well in any case, I meant that I got into jazz with bands such as Led bib, Acoustic Ladyland and the dreaded Polar Bear. Ya know, the Indie kid jazz bands. WinkTongue

Now it's time for some Coltrane.

I like the bands you just mentioned. I've not got any Polar Bear but I've heard some on Last.fm.
