I wonder who that is on the cover of American Don. I never liked that artwork much, though DC2 and What Burns Never Returns have really cool covers.

American Don?

I'm listening to Coltrane's Expression on his Myspace, so far it's sounding pretty good.

Nope, they're having problems today.  It loaded for a while without scrobbling, now it won't even load.  So I'm listening, like I said, to Coltrane on his Myspace.  http://www.myspace.com/johnwcoltrane/music/albums/expression-2231 at the moment.

My record store has loads of cheap Jazz at the moment, and I was tempted to buy a whole lot, but I was unsure of what I'd like.

If it hasn't been taken yet, I claim rights to the album name Cheap Jazz.

Can't go very wrong with Mingus, Monk, Coltrane, or Davis.

I saw a load of Coltrane, Davis, and all the other usual suspects. I already have Kind of Blue, so I think I'll just pick up 3 or 4 cd's, one from each artist.

Good plan.  If they have Mingus' album The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady I recommend it strongly.

@Jon, will do. I'm still really a Jazz noob, although I enjoy it when I'm in the mood.

@Matt, why yes I am. Living in NZ has to have some benefits every now and then.

A lot of people (most, in fact) will say Kind of Blue.  It's not a bad starting place.

Most start at Kind of Blue, but anywhere is good. So far I have never been disappointed by any jazz I've listened to.
