No. Can't say I do. Maybe in passing, but haven't really interacted.

12 april 2010 - marillion recommends...Sundomingo

"When we played in Montreal last year, we had the pleasure of being
supported by a band who we think are fantastic! They are called Sundomingo
and they all hail from Atlanta, USA."

"Their performance is captured in an upcoming live collection,
“Live In Montreal/Marillion Weekend ’09,” which we are pleased to be selling through Racket Records."

Check them out on YouTube at:www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqNrBKa4MZg

We know our fans love to hear great music so we thought this would be a good
time to introduce you to this band.

Says Guitarist, Edgel Groves:  “We recorded this album in Montreal while
supporting Marillion, who were so gracious in giving us the opportunity to
play for their incredible fans.  Recorded over two nights, we picked the
best 12 performances and decided to release them because of the magic they
possessed when listening back"

The CD is available to pre order now at the great price of £7.99

They were a pretty cool band. At one point the guitarist jumped back behind the drum kit and played a co-drum solo with the full-time drummer. I could see one of the guys run back and get Pete and they watched them from the side of the stage and Pete was really impressed.

You really should try to make it to Montreal, Randy. They're performing Holidays In Eden in it's entirety next year.

I'm really looking forward to the DVDBig smile

When I first read next year's conference would be featuring the entire HiE album, I wasn't too happy about it. It's defenitely not one of my favourite albums, but, due to this information, I gave it a couple of spins and I have to admit I enjoy it more than I rememberedEmbarrassed I absolutely love "The Party" and, well, I actually enjoy all songs with the exception of the chorus of the title track and the verse of "This Town"!

I'm working from home today and had it sent to my office. I bet it gets there today or tomorrow.

How is it so far, Steve?

Hi there Eric !   So far. very good. The performances are much what I remember from the Montreal convention, except for the deviation H took in This Strange Engine ( Per your signature photo ). I'm still digesting it, When I Meet God is playing as I type. It's really nicely recorded and mixed-they took great care in capturing the spirit of the shows. I can't wait to see the fim footage.

Steve, I got into the office and had that nice cardboard box awaiting me from Racket! Loading 'em into iTunes now.

Are you familiar with The Reasoning? It's Rachel Jones (now Cohen), who used to sing for Karnataka. They opened for Marillion at the European convention and the discs came highly recommended. I bought them from Greg Walker here in the States and they are awesome. Awakening was even mixed by Dave Meegan. Really good stuff.

Eric, that's probably the track that I was most looking forward to hearing, and agreed, they do really hit it well on this record ! I think that probably because they had not played it in years that they spent a lot of time rehearsing it for the convention.  Mark probably had to refresh and update all his samples and sounds for his more modern gear , That's one thing I can comment on is that his keyboard sounds have really evolved and improved over the last ten years. I would love to hear them perform all of Brave again , because I think sonically it would show a real improvement in comparison with earlier performances. I know Brave is your favourite album by Marillion, and it's very close to number one for me as well. I just think the original studio recording sounds a bit cluttered and harsh at times ( I've said that before ?,  but the material is top notch.
Back to the new discs, so far both are wonderful. I've listened to all of Size Matters, and am working through Tumbling .  More listening for this evening and this week-end.
Enjoy them both and report back when you've listened more.

The Reasoning are based not far from me in South Wales. They are a great band - we saw them supporting Fish last year, and they are highly recommended.

In fact, Mrs Lazland & I will be getting a credit on the new CD when it comes out owing to us entering for a photo competition for the cover (thanks to Scott Rushfan4 for telling us about it).

I'm on the Brave section of Tumbling Down The Years ("Hard As Love" to be exact). So far, both of these discs are awesome! The live version of "Real Tears" always sends a chill. Love that song.

I think they should play Brave specifically for the North American convention. It won't happen, but it would be amazing if they did!

I'm extremely impressed with Awakening and Dark Angel. "Absolute Zero" and "Breaking The 4th Wall" are such beautiful tracks.

Congrats on the mention. How did this come about again?

Scott PM'd me to draw my attention to a post by the band's manager inviting fans to enter a competition for a photo on the cover of the new CD. I duly entered, but wasn't successful, but all entrants get a mention on the new work, which is released early next month. In fact, I am listening to them now performing an acoustic set and interview on BBC Radio Wales - great stuff too. Marillion and H in particular got a big mention. The host stated what a terrific voice he has. Not a bad evening thus far, thenBig smile

This is the cover of the new Reasoning album:
