Anorak Live in the UK is a great live album! Though I haven´t heard Marbles by the Sea, which ought to be one of the best live albums.

The Marbles on the Road DVD is utterly incredible - easily the best live show I own.

Just realised, BTW. 1500 posts on the forum. Don't I have anything better to do??!! Silly thought, really. Just love it hereBig smile

Check out some of the Front Row discs, too. There are some still available. I really miss the old club and getting a new live CD every few months.

If I may plug a disc: Lee Abraham (bassist for Galahad) released an album entitled Black And White. John Mitchell, Simon and Jem Godfrey, Steve Thorne, and Sean Filkins all appear on it, and I have to say that it's an amazing disc. I got it on a complete whim and so glad I made the choice to get it. Just an absolute stunner!!!

Latest from the band - watching the interview now, which is great. Superb quality picture too!

Transmission continues...

After the success of series one of Racket Television we are going to be bringing you more episodes as the band continue with writing sessions for the new album. We are kicking off series 2 with Episodes 1&2 'Ask The Band'.

A few weeks ago we asked you all to send in your questions for an interview with the whole band. We had an overwhelming response to this feature, with thousands of you writing in, so thanks for sending your questions.

The end result is an epic interview which we have split into 5 parts. We will be bringing you these over the coming weeks so stay tuned to the Racket Television channel over on YouTube.

Click on the link below to watch episode 1, Part1:

In other news...

The wait is almost over, we've been hard at work on three very exciting new releases. April will see the release of two new live CDs 'Tumble Down The Years' & 'Size Matters' recorded at the Marillion Convention in 2009. We are pleased to announce that these audio CDs are now available to Pre-Order.

Interesting interview, Lazzy. I sent one in regarding a possible tour of the United States in the future; but, guess they get that one all the time.

Marillion is one of my personal favorites.  I think one of the reasons I am so fond of them stems from the fact that they were the band that really brought me into prog.  Had Script not completely captivated me the first time I heard it, I don't think I would have ever gotten past Rush, Pink Floyd, and Kansas.

Perhaps as a result, I really only follow the Fish-era stuff.  I picked up Brave recently, but it just hasn't done it for me.  Script, Fugazi, and Childhood on the other hand are some of my very favorite albums.  I especially like B'Sides Themselves too.

Welcome to our little thread InifiniteWake, good to have you around
I also love the B'Sides Themselves disc; 3 Boats Down From The Candy is definitely one of my favourite Marillion tracks.

On a random note, has anyone else in here heard Transatlantic's latest album, The Whirlwind? Mr. Trewavas absolutely shines on bass, some of the best playing I've ever heard.

Agreed. That entire album is incredible Clap

I figured that I should drop in here at some point since I've been a massive Marillion fan lately. I've bought all of the Fish-era albums, as well as Brave. I love all 5 of the albums I own Big smile

I've recently been back into Marillion, listening to all their albums from Script to Brave. I don't dislike Hogarth but Fish IS the Marillion. After about 20 years I still haven't decided if I like Brave or not. I like every track when I listen to it, but all the album in one shot is quite hard to listen to, I don't know why.
I saw the comment about Three boats. I agree. It's probably the most underrated Marillion's song, but in B'sides there are also weak things like Tux On and Charting the single that I'm used to skip. I have quit with them after Afraid of Sunlight, but I have read on PA that their recent things are good. I'm thinking to give them a try.

IMO, you´ve read it right: their recent things áre good, but very different from the early Marillion you've listened toWink Be prepared!

Haha, I don't want to make it seem like I'm bragging, bút:
In the interview multiple band members talk about the "last/latest album" by which they mean HItR! Big smile It's a good thing the band don't regard L=M as a full studio album, but just as something which has come along between two full albums.

I'm really looking forward to the new album!Clap

I love B'sides Themselves too. And I have to admit I like all the album's songs, including "Charting the Single" and "Tux On".

And indeed The Whirlwind contains some very good bass playing, though I really miss Pete on the lead vocals on the album. (I think he only shines some two or three lines in Out of the Night) It's a pitty he sings less lead vocals on The Whirlwind than on the first two albums, IMO: I love his voice.

Not that I'm biased, but Trewavas absolutely makes that album musically for me. He absolutely thunders that bass of his. It's a very good LP and a must for all lovers of pure retro prog.

What a wonderful first read on a Monday morning! It really is a lovely album, all around, with many of my favorite Marillion tracks—Easter, Uninvited Guest, Holloway Girl, After Me. I think H's vocal passion and intensity on this record were spot on, in terms of the transition from the Fish to the Hogarth era. Personally, I never felt a letdown.

Speaking of that passion and intensity, there's no doubt that both Fish and H have it, but I sometime think of the comparison as Fish being like military special forces, whereas H is the sly diplomat. Both are intense, both are passionate, and both get the job done. Anyone else see that, or have I simply not had enough morning coffee yet?

Cheers...

Well, I can see where you´ve got that comparison from, but I don´t feel the same way, I guess. (It must be the lack of morning coffeeTongue) Both are passionate, intense and get the job done, agreed, but Fish can be gentle as hell and h can scream his lungs out as wel as Fish does. I understand how you came to the comparison, but I don't feel it really fits.
