I can give or take rush nowadays but today I'm listening to everything from 2112 to Perment Waves.Hopefully this could rekindle my love for them.I'll be back with a verdict.

Rush still gets regular spins from me. S&A was a great album.

Yep, Snakes and Arrows by far has the most listens of any album that I own, since it came out. I gave it another listen just last week. There are benefits to being a fanboy. You can generate much more enjoyment from certain albums than others are able to generate.

S&A was damn good indeed. Rush's 2007 gig in Glasgow was probably one of the best gigs I've ever been to (kinda hard to decide between that and Jeff Waynes War Of The Worlds that I went to this year)

I don't know if any of your are into hi definition music (SACD, DVD-A, DTS 96/24). The MVI version of S&A was awsome for the 5.1 uncompressed sound. I have the regular CD as well and I would repurchase all of their albums again if they would re-master them and release hi-def surround versions of them. (But in all honesty I would prefer a DVD-Audio to the MVI. The extras were nice but I think the resolution of a DVD-A is better).
My favourite album though will always be the one that introduced me to them which was A Farewell to Kings. and the S&A was a very nice and refreshing return to a modern version of that energy, style and composition. In any case I digress. I would be interested to know how many people (Rush and Progressive Rock fans especially!!) are into or own the equipment for hi-def surround music? Carl. I wish I had the funds for it. A buddy of mine keeps going on and on about how spectacular the Genesis 5.1 discs sound.
For now (at least), I'm rollin' old school, yo. E |

I try to use as much as possbile the 5.1 equipement when i listen music with my computer and with my cd player. Of course, when the source is 5.1. But sometimes i am not satisfied with the lack of power coming from the front speakers and when there's too much power in the rear speakers. I am in the experiment stage with the 5.1 technology. I got a lot more DVD to test then cd at the moment. |

I received this email last night and thought that I would share it: Neil Peart's Version of The Hockey Theme to Debut on NHL ON TSN Tomorrow
Neil Peart recorded a new rock version of The Hockey Theme last month, and the percussion-inspired rendition of "Canada's second national anthem" will make its NHL ON TSN debut tomorrow: Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 7 p.m. ET during the Philadelphia @ Toronto game. Peart's rendition of The Hockey Theme also available to fans on iTunes on January 19 and his custom drum kit used to record "Canada's second national anthem" to be donated to the Hockey Hall of Fame. "Growing up in Southern Ontario in the '50s and '60s as 'a kid who couldn't skate right' was a serious handicap," said Peart. "Hockey totally dominated our lives for half the year -- Sunday nights with my dad at the St. Catharines Arena cheering on the Junior A Blackhawks, anxiously watching NHL games on television, arguing in the schoolyard over favourite teams and players, trading hockey cards, putting them on our bicycle spokes, and playing on backyard rinks and frozen ponds, on the street, and on those old tabletop games. Hockey ruled. So, all these years later, being invited to create a new version of "Canada's second national anthem" for TSN's NHL broadcasts was a huge honour to me, and an exciting musical challenge. The day of recording and filming it "in the presence of the Stanley Cup" was truly one of the great experiences of my life. (Take that, bullies from 50 years ago!)" For the recording, Peart wore his trademark cap adorned with the logos of the original six NHL teams. He also wore a hockey jersey featuring his "Bubba's Bar & Grill" logo on the front and the number three on the back, in reference to the three members of Rush. The band's name was also sewn onto the jersey's nameplate. |

My picture says it all....Since 1975'ish I've been a part of the Rushinati. Don't consider myself a geek either, far from it so I never got that label. Up till recently the press has not been kind to Rush....only after 30+ years of making awesome music are they paying attention. Rush is 4th all time list of most consecutive gold/platinum album sales only behind Beatles, Stones and Aerosmith...go figure!!?? And of course the RnR HOF has been dissing them for the past 15 years...we all know that story.
One day Geddy will put down the bass, Neil will lay the sticks down and Alex will become a full time standup comedian....A sad day in the progrock universe that will be...But the music will live on.

I purchased Kevin Anderson's book #1 of the Terra Incognita series titled The Edge of the World yesterday. The book was dedicated to Neil Peart and read something along the lines of "whose music and lyrics have inspired me for years". I'll have to type the exact wording later. |

We have as friends a nice youngish couple in our village, and went to their house for a few drinks at the weekend.
Turns out they are massive Rush fans!! ![]() ![]() So, naturally, I spent yesterday doing a compilation CD of piles of prog and hard rock which I think they will like, plus some of the more obscure Rush stuff they haven't got. Happy days. |

I'm still hoping for a US tour this year... Micky has never seen them, and I'm sure he'd enjoy them immensely. They are one of the best live bands I've seen, and very entertaining.
