Boy, I'm really looking forward to the DVD's, Eric. Though I don't think I will buy both of them, my pocket money will not suffice, I think. I'll rethink it when they both are released, though! Really looking forward to the Weekend :D

Luckily, Marillion is one of those things that my wife will show a little latitude on. She knows my love for these guys and normally allows me to get thing without resistance (but within reason).

Try to get both, if you can. Both have their own vibe and characteristics.

Eric, I was just looking through your Marillion CD reviews, and see you don't have any Fish era stuff listed yet ( as well as dot.com with H ).  What do you think about filling in those blanks ?  It would be interesting to see your take on each album from that period. I know Clutching At Straws is your fave from that era, and I agree because you can really hear the sonic trend they developed much farther with H on Season's End.  How about reviewing these ?

You did good, Marlon. I don't spin Friends that much because of all the covers, but did enjoy it the last time I listened to it. They do a great version of Crowded House's "She Goes On".

Family and Unplugged are essential, though. The live version of "Abraham, Martin & John" will damn near bring a tear to your eyes. Here I am saying I don't care for cover versions for Friends, but enjoying this cover version. It is very good, though.

Wait until you hear the re-interpretation of "Alone Again In The Lap Of Luxury".

Steve h, the voice and words of experimental art-rockers, Marillion, has also quietly made a name for himself as a solo artist. He has done so over the years by marrying styles as diverse as XTC, Japan, Blondie and The Stone Roses in his 8 piece "h band". In 2008 he took to the stage alone under the banner "h Natural" ...for a series of sold-out shows across Europe. These shows quickly drifted from their initial "An evening with" format to audience-request free-for-all's, as he abandoned the set list in response to cries for Marillion-favourites along with covers from artists as diverse as Kraftwerk, Glen Campbell and Elvis.

May 14th is his birthday.

Expect an evening of surprises and a chance to hear the soul of Marillion stripped bare

I decided to randomly play 25 songs from iTunes so that I can post a list.  I haven't played random in ages.  Anyhow, I thought that y'all would like to know that Marillion's King was the first track selected.  And just for posterity purposes, Rush's The Pass live version from Rush In Rio was second.

Definitely have to put Somewhere Else into the player now and revisit it. But tonight, I had a business meeting in NYC, so I took Marillion Rochester (yep, I donated) with me for the drive in from north NJ. No traffic into the city, so I only got through all but "Easter" from Disc 1, including a brief sit in the driveway to finish "Estonia" before going into the house. Just, wow ... Sure, there are some hiccups as you'd expect from a live recording, but personally, I like that rawness in live recordings. To me, the sequencing of "Lavender" into "Afraid of Sunlight" is just brilliant. I always thought that opening with "Season's End" was a bit strange, feeling that "Alone Again" or "Hard as Love" would make for a much more energetic kick-off, but seeing as "Season's End" is one of my favorite vocal performances from H, so all is forgiven. And "Garden Party" is just a genius way to cap the show, isn't it?
