Scripts - Forgotten Sons. It's still my favourite Marillion's song even if the final guitar solo is the same of Grendel
Fugazi - She Chameleon. Technically speaking it's not the best album's song, but has something that hits me deeply
Misplaced Childhood - Childhood's end (I liked singing it with my cover group 25 years ago), but also Heart of Lothian.
Clutching at Straws - The whole album, but Hotel Hobbies is great.
Seasons End - Holloway Girl and The Space on the same level - Sorry for Fish leaving, but Hogarth has a great voice. I saw him in Rome during their first tour after Fish, and Fish with his band few months later. I though to have two albums to buy each year instead of one...
Holidays in Eden - Dry Land.
Brave - It's a true concept album, so each part work well together the rest. However "Living with a Big Lie" is my favourite

The list stops here. I was very disappointed of Afraid of sunlight. I never finished listening to it and I have quit with Marillion since that album. I'll probably give them a try when I find some reasonable time to dedicate to them. Currently I'm listening to Grobschnitt.

I've been very busy and haven't had time to post but I check to see what you guys are saying, thanks for keeping the thread going.  I don't pick favorites so I'm not going to list per album but I enjoy hearing about your favs and why.  For me different songs bring up different emotions and memories that I can't pick between.

Okay, thanks for the additions to greatest tracks. I've been trying to keep score, but please remember that as a Tax Inspector, I cannot really be expected to count properlyLOL

Script: Chelsea Monday 2; Forgotten Sons 2; Script 1
Fugazi: Incubus 2; Fugazi 2; Cinderella Search 1
Misplaced Childhood: Childhood's End 2; Lavender 1; Heart of Lothian 1; Blind Curve 1
Clutching At Straws: Hotel Hobbies 2; The Last Straw 2; Sugar Mice 1
Seasons End: Seasons End 1; King of Sunset Town 1; Holloway Girl 1; Easter 1; Berlin 1
HIE: Splintering Heart 1; Waiting to Happen 1; Dry Land 1; The Party 1
Brave: The Great Escape 2; Living with the Big Lie 2; Goodbye to all That 1
Afraid of Sunlight: Gazpacho 2; Beautiful 1; Out of this World 1
This Strange Engine: Title track 3; Man of a Thousand Faces 1
Radiation: These Chains 2; A Few Words for the Dead 2
Marillion.com: Interior Lulu 3; Rich 1
Anoracknophobia: This is the 21st Century 1; Map of the World 1; If my heart were a ball...1 When I Meet God 1
Marbles: Neverland 2; Invisible Man 1; Marbles III 1
Somewhere Else: Somewhere Else 2; Faith 1; Voice from the Past 1
HITR: Real Tears for Sale 3; Dreamy Street 1
Less=More: Out of this World 2; Interior Lulu 1; This is the 21st Century 1

Interesting that there is no consensus on any LP, which I take to read as there being such an abundance of great tracks, that it would be virtually impossible to get one. Hopefully, we will get a few more.

Octopus-4. Welcome to the forum. I am somewhat surprised at your comments re AoS, as this is generally one of the higher rated LPs by the band - 3.79 average on the Archives, certainly higher than a few others. However, given that you loved Brave, I would most certainly recommend that you get Marbles. Brave, to me, is a 5 star album, but Marbles is the one 5 star album I would take to the desert island with me. A work of true genius, I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Script For A Jester's Tear: probably the s/t

Fugazi
- "Jigsaw" or "Punch And Judy"

Misplaced Childhood
- "Heart Of Lothian" - Just utterly triumphant

Clutching At Straws
- "Warm Wet Circles"

Seasons End
- "Easter" - It's Marillion's perfect song

Holidays In Eden
- "Cover My Eyes (Pain And Heaven)" - It's pop, but wonderfully put together

Brave
- Best disc I own. "The Great Escape" just takes over every time I hear it. Sublime.

Afraid Of Sunlight
- The title track. Achingly beautiful. Gained a whole new appreciation for "Out Of This World" after the seeing them do it live at the convention with the footage of Donald Campbell on the screen behind them. Very eerie experience.

This Strange Engine
- Again, the title track. Especially in it's live form.

Radiation
- "A Few Words For The Dead" - They opened night #3 with this in Montreal and I gained a whole new appreciation for it. "These Chains" are a close second.

Marillion.com
- My least favorite (besides Less=More). "Interior Lulu"

Anoraknophobia
- Probably "This Is The 21st Century"

Marbles
- Too many to mention. "Fantastic Place" is magnificent. As is "Neverland" and "Ocean Cloud". A close race between these three.

Somewhere Else
- The title track, "The Other Half" and "A Voice From The Past". Not really sure why this album gets raked over the coals.

Happiness Is The Road
- "Real Tears For Sale", with "State Of Mind" coming in second. The former is one of my all time favorites.. They did both songs back-to-back in Montreal and it was so friggin' kick ass.
Not even counting Less Is More. I'm so uninspired from it and really wished they had thought twice.

Hey, guys,

I'm thinking of buying a new DVD (Marillion, of course!) and I'm interessted to know in what your feelings are about "Somwhere in Londen" - I think Somwhere Else is a very good album, very emotional, so I am thinking of picking that one...Anybody?

Ocean Cloud alone is worth the price of this DVD.  The entire crowd singing Sugar Mice, awesome.  I prefer Marbles on the Road for version of Neverland but that's probably becauce I need a long intro, the rest of the Marbles album.

Definitely. Ocean Cloud is probably Marillion's best DVD for production qualities, and the live version of Ocean Cloud is just stunning. I'd definitely get that one

Okay, thanks, you... I've already got Marbles on the Road and it sure is one hell of a beauty! I have already been willing to buy SiL when I suddenly got the opportunity to get my hands on "Brave Live 2002", so I got that one; now my wallet has regrown to its original size again I'd like to buy it, but I was kind of dubbing whether I should  purchase "Bootleg Butlins" rather than "Somwhere in Londen"; I'll go for the latter oneWink

Hey, Joren. Nice to meet you. I would highly recommend the Somewhere In London DVD. Beautifully shot and the performance is very dynamic. It's probably too late, but Marillion gave each WebUK member a free DVD of the band's entire performance in Cologne on the Happiness Is The Road tour, and it could be the best DVD to date. Excellent stuff!!

Glad to see my thread still goin' strong. Great job in my absence, fellas. ClapClapClap

The Butlins is a fine DVD, but you're better off with Somewhere In London.

This Strange Convention might be worth your while, too.

Oh I "bought" Less = More a few days back (with a gift card). I guess I'm a completionist, because I'd heard it before and it's kinda mediocre. But I didn't want to buy only one volume of Happiness is the Road, though I like it a lot more now that in the past.

I've already added This Strange Convention to my collection and it is a magnificent DVD, though IMO the saturday night show could have been deleted. I mean, they are ofcourse allowed to play some covers at times, but not a whole nineteen-song night with as few as five songs (sorry if I've miscounted) comming from their own repetoire. (Being a Dutchman I sure as hell like the cover of Hocus Pocus, of courseEmbarrassed).
The friday night is probably the best night from the three, though the sunday night with the partly instrumental Hotel Hobbies-trilogy is very much worth whatching and Afraid of Sunlight with h's "broken voice" at the end...
It is a pitty I'm not a The Web member, since I've now missed my change to Happiness Is Collogne...I thought I could buy it anyway, but that turned out to be the CD version....Cry Stupid boy, I am...

Can't argue with that. I could do without the Saturday night covers show, too. And, to be honest, I'd feel a bit jipped if I went to the convention and they played half the show with cover tunes. Like Stone, I'm a completionist, so I bought the Friends CD to go along with it, but rarely listen.

I think it's too late to get the WebUK mag with the DVD, but you could try contacting them. They're pretty helpful and always respond. It's worth your while because it's a brilliant DVD. I thought they were only going to include maybe half the show when it was first announced, but to get the entire show was a class move.

Looking for this thread I found it on page 2; and we can't have that now can we? Wink

So instead of listing our best song from each album what about a list of songs who are special to us for any reason or songs we do think are overlooked to much by other fans or even get flamed as badOuch

I start this with :

Script For A Jester's Tear - He Knows You Know  / the first song I heard from on the radio back in 1983 them and it grabbed my attention immediately!! Loved all of it then and still do; great vocals; great lyrics and it rocks hard.... The next day I went to the shop to listen to the album and after the first versus of Script itself I knew I had a new favourite band Big smileBig smile
Fugazi - She Chameleon / on the Marillion forum this gets the vote for 1 of the worst Fish-era songs a lot which I really don't understand Confused it builds into the Ď've seen a different doorway... section which I like a lot ( drums; guitar(solo) )
Misplaced Childhood - Bitter Suite / not really overlooked but just 1 of my favourite Fish-era songs 9 the spoken intro and the Misplaced Rendezvous especially ). And find it so much better in my view Heart Of Lothian which gets too much praise in my opinion.
Clutching At Straws - Hotel Hobbies / This one just draws me into this album every time.Big smile Slow start but with some amazing blistering guitarwork from Steve later on. To me his guitar never sounded better than one Clutching... which is most likely a major factor why this is always fighting with Brave for the number 1 spot.
Seasons End - The Uninvited Guest / sometimes sounds like one on this album and it's not in my top 4 of the album but I still like the song a lot and it's a lot of fun live.
Holidays In Eden - Waiting To Happen / Great romantic song which always reminds me of the most beautiful face I ever saw ....
Brave - Alone Again In The Lap Of Luxury / A bit overlooked it seems sometimes in between all the other amazing songs this album has to offer. I espially like how it flows into the "Now Wash Your Hands" section in the end.
Afraid Of Sunlight - Gazpacho / I didn't think this was very special until I heard it live and it became so much more one of the favourites of the album. To me this was also 1 of if not the best song during the Less=More concert I saw.
This Strange Engine - Man Of A Thousand Faces / Most attention goes to This Strange Engine and Estonia but this one starts the album of just fine.
Radiation - Born To Run / very different than almost all their other songs but isn't that also part of their attrection for us all? I like it for one; H his singing as fantastic as always....
.Com - Rich / This whole album never did much to me and I don't care much about it; although I don't really know why.  Rich stands out for me.
Anoraknophobia - Fruit Of The Wild Rose / I always loved this song ( great ending part with the acoustic guitar ) so it was really cool to this live in december 2007 ).
Marbles - The Only Unforgiveable Thing / Why wasn't this played live ( I am not quite sure it was never played but not during the 5 shows I saw in 2004 )  during the Marbles tour? Underrated song
Somewhere Else - No Such Thing / A bit of a shame he sings this with effects on the vocals but to me this is a great song and supurb live. Way way better than the awful The Last Century For Man or the only slightly better Thankyou Whoever You Are; both overrated in my opinion.
Happiness Is The Road - The Man From The Planet Marzipan / One of those songs that became so much better when seeing it perfomed live by H. Big smile
Less=More - Memory Of Water / The one song which benefits from the Less=More approach for me. But that may be due to the fact that lately I'm into more harder stuff ( the new Riverside; Opeth ).

So let's see your lists and get this topic on top again!!

Great to see you Bravejester. You are absolutely right about keeping The Round Table on page oneClapClap

I can't really add much to my original list, as they are all really special to me, but, if it's okay, your contributions will go towards the final tally (I'll wait for a few more contributions yet). My thinking is that the best personal tracks are also the most special to me, and I suspect this is the case for all other posters.

I love your comment about Script - clearly, we started listening to the great band at about the same time.

Very strongly agree about Hotel Hobbies, which is a great track. Uninvited Guest is still, rightly, a live favourite, and I remember hearing this on the original tour when I knew all would be well with the world.

It's always interesting how individual songs mean so much to us, and I would love to see your comments about Waiting to Happen being posted all over the Forum - at the end of the day, it is the individual thought and meaning that we hold dear that sets us all apart from other music forums and fans IMHOHug

Aside from agreeing with me on Man of a Thousand Faces, which I still find remarkable, you really have opened up a new dimension to this particular topic with your choices, so thanks a lot.

New e-mail from the band, which I have copied and pasted below:

Happy New Year to marillio-heads everywhere from snowed-in Oxfordshire.

I've started noodling around at home to get the creative juices flowing in
anticipation of work resuming this week at the Racket Club. Assuming we can
get there with all this snow, we intend to start work on album No.16, or is
it 17? I'm not sure really. Does L=M count as a album? Do Marbles and HITR
count as two? Who, except Ian is counting anyway? I'm pretty excited to get
started on something brand new but I'm sure the excitement will start to
fade a few weeks in when we are arguing over crochets and minor thirds which
is why we have a trip planned to Portugal in March for some writing in the
sun. We will be setting a few hours aside to brush up on the acoustic set
for the gig in Lousada on the 27th www.marillion.com/tour.

I'm beginning to regret setting fire to my harmonium whilst drunk one
night.(see above) I wanted to play the Arthur Brown song "Fire"
with some real feeling and things got a bit out of hand. I didn't think I'd
be needing it again, Oh well, at least I sampled it AND I've been on the
wagon since Jan 1st, so things are looking up!

Love and hugs

Mark

I'd like to thank anyone who made it to the Wishing Tree concert at
the Bush Hall. It was a great evening and a lot of fun once we'd
sorted out the little problem with the dead bass drum!

It seems we might have seen the worst of the bad weather and I'm eager
to start writing again at the Racket Club. I'm also looking forward to
picking up my new Jack Dent guitars in New York at the end of the
month. I've got a couple of things planned while I'm over.

I'm giving a guitar clinic at the Dog Ear Tavern (http://www.dogeartavern.com)
on Saturday the 30th January during the afternoon followed by a social
gathering and jam session in the evening at the same venue.

Email [email protected] if you're interested in attending either event.

Here's to a great 2010!

Steve
