Dream Theater Appreciation Thread

I borrowed a copy of An Evening With John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess from a friend, and let me tell you, it blew out any preconceptions I had about Petrucci and Rudess.

I often (stupidly) thought of Rudess as a juvenile and immature keyboardist, only really concerned with technicality. This showed another whole side and dimension to both of the masters, and is really worth a listen for big DT fans!

Probably. It really isn't a masterpiece or even a true album, but it is definitely something cool to listen to. It isn't meant for the same type of enjoyment as Scenes From a Memory, etc. but more so as a jazzy album with some cool riffs and great musicians jamming. Personally, I love it, but if you're not into that type of thing, it definitely won't appeal to you.

I'd give my opinion on what I think about many other DT releases, but that is not appropriate for an appreciation thread : P

I also have An Evening with JP & JR, and I find it a nice listening, but I never really got to love that stuff. I enjoy it more as background music. And certainly, Dream Theater fans shoul take this album with precaution, for it's got about nothing to do with Dream Theater (except for Petrucci and Rudess, ofcourse). On the other hand, I really loved the Liquid Tension Experiment albums (well, not all their songs, but the good ones are really great). I guess there's a better chance for a Dream Theater fan to like LTE than an Evening with JP & JR.
