Hey, Luke. Anything new?

Evening, Alex. Not much new here..but I did give the new Diablo Swing Orchestra a listen today, MUCH better than their first alsum IMHO. I felt the first one became stale after the first 3-4 songs...not so with the new one.

I would agree. I've given the second one a good 5-6 spins so far and it just sounds better and better each time. Unlike their first which I burned out on pretty quickly.

Only one spin thus far for me, but I love it already. Big smile

One listen was all it took for me to tell it was going to be a fantastic album. Much more avant-garde, but much more focused too. Big smile

But auntie June likes stuff other than prog too. She's quite the Kinky Floozie Tongue, in particular.

But perhaps 90s Tom Waits would be playful enough for a kid? (I Don't Wanna Grow Up, for example)

Oh man, can you imagine the shame of having a niece who likes Coldplay...

Hey, who is the better pianist, Fats Domino or Jerry lee Lewis?

Oh heck no. LOL

I agree. More accessible stuff first is better. Although trying to gear it towards what she already listens to (if anything) might help.

What about they're both great?
Or Emerson and Wakeman are better? Wink
Anyway, I'm going to bed. Good night to Joel, June and David!

Oh, by the way June... If you like Tom Waits, you might enjoy Patrick Watson, musically. En plus, c'est un Montréalais Smile I saw him live this summer Clap
And your niece is seven. If you show her Mr. Waits, she won't be able to sleep for months LOL
And thanks again Joel!

Yes of course, I can totally understand how meeting god could be indimidating.

I find Patrick Watson to be a boring band. I hate their name too. He sounds like a diet Nick Drake. No offense, but I don't get the comparison. Shocked

Oh yeah. If she's not quite ready for Bo-Rhap, she can chew on We Will Rock You for a few more years.

Actually, I think both of my brother's kids know Radio Ga-Ga already.

Hey, by the way, prog-lovers...

I was wondering the other day whether enjoying prog as a teenage/adult necessitated a healthy exposure to Classical music as a kid, because so far, it seems to be the case with a lot of people I know who do like prog.

Did you guys listen to Classical music when you were younger?

I actually used to hate classical music when I was younger.

Only in the past few years have I grown to enjoy some of it, mainly stuff like Stravinsky, Rachmaninoff, and Mussorgsky.

Actually, for some reason, Night Of Bald Mountain reminded me of Saint Saens's La Danse Macabre:

Is that the version found on that random Hammill website?

I know there's a version Flight floating around somewhere... 'tis about 20 minutes in length.
