I would've picked organ....but I was looking more in the vein of a hammond, or a farfisa, or one of those big guys, rather than a pipe organ (which is still awesome)

I smell a new poll. (tee hee - That sounds dirty) Favourite synth. ARP 2600. It's the closest thing to Emerson's monster and that was somewhat road worthy that I know of.

I love the number of votes the mellotron is getting. Only on PA
Went with the electric guitar, myself.

The electric guitar! i play it myself, it´s essential for most of the music i listen to and i think it offers nearly the biggest variety of sounds...

I tend to be a huge fan of jazzier prog, so any reeds or wind will do it for me. If I had to pin it down, I'd say the Tenor Sax, because I like the tone of it at all ranges. In fact, the raucous sax solos on Islands are some of my biggest reasons for liking that album...See also, VDGG and Hawkwind's studio albums.
After that, some nice fingerpicked 12-string, then any number of synths.

It's hard to choose, so I'll just say this:
1. String instruments 2. woodwinds 3. piano/keys 4. the rest

I recently fell in love with the sound of the vibraphone, what an incredible instrument, and a surprisingly powerful lead.
Since the vibraphone isn't here, I'll be the first to vote for the violin. I absolutely love the sensitive and haunting sound of the violin... it can be very soft and soothing, but also very dark and manacing. It was a pretty hard decision though, as there are so many incredible instruments.

Sound wise I would choose Synthesizer, Piano, Electric Guitar, or Electric Bass. Playing wise I choose the Bass. Much more fun to play than the other instruments on the list in my opinion. I choose the Bass because of its sound and playability.
