Futures End

The most exciting tech metal album debut this year, blending Thrash, Prog, Power, and melody into a new alloy of scorching molten metal sounding a bit like if you tossed TESTAMENT, ZERO HOUR and SYMPHONY X and ALICE IN CHAINS into a blender with a few ice cubes possibly?

Here we have a technical metal band, the ferocity of their playing is only matched by the amount of melody brought forth by vocalist Fred MarshalL (Ex - Zero Hour), Fred brings forth an interesting vibe similar to that of  Layne Staley, yet not soundling like him. Featuring veteran rhythm section Steve DiGiorgio (Death, Autopsy, Control Denied, Testament, Vintersorg, Iced Earth, and Sadus) and Jon Allen (Sadus, Testament, and Dragonlord) Christian Wentz (Circle II  Circle) and one of the most downloaded guitarists from mp3.com Mark Pattison.

Buy or Die for all tech metal and prog metal fans

This Misery Garden

Formed in Geneva in 2005, This Misery Garden is a Dark rock/metal band influenced by bands such as Katatonia, Tool and A Perfect Circle and aim to deliver a genuine, intense music: Melancholy and hope, anger and serenity, love and death, all of this blend altogether to create a vivid and illuminating sound.

After many changes, the line-up has been stabilized and is now composed by: Laurent (ex-Zuul FX), playing the guitar. Jay (ex-Body Bag) playing the bass. Stephan (past member of Oyate and The Learned), playing drums. Antoine (who studied under the guidance of Christophe Godin), as second guitar player. Steve (Middlecage), handling the vocals.

During the year 2006, the band recorded 2 demo tracks for promotional use, which allowed them to emerge in the local scene. They eventually began to record their first album, “Another Great Day on Earth”, during 2007, under the supervision of Drop (Sybreed) at the “Drone Studio”. 14 powerful yet melodic songs were recorded. (Vocals and Lyrics by Benjamin, Sybreed.)

However, this is only the first step and the goal is now to show the “live” dimension of their music through entertaining and professional performances.

In any way, This Misery Garden won’t let you indifferent.

Images Of Eden

The recording for the 3rd CD, Rebuilding The Ruins, is complete and is currently being mixed, with a tentative release window of Dec, 2009- Feb, 2010, depending on logisitics as well as the promotional campaign timeframe.

We made sure that we took all of the time necessary to record this CD (a good chunk of 2009), making certain not to "settle" for anything less than top-notch performances, so it is very safe to say that the material on this release is worlds beyond our 2006 effort (Sunlight of the Spirit) in writing, production, concept and execution. It is no secret that I was less than thrilled with the overall execution of "Sunlight" so I made 110% certain that ever imperfection/ wrinkle would be ironed out for "Ruins". Hey, hindsight is 20/20 and we all live and learn, right.... sometimes the hard way (expensive way)?

The CD features Chris Lucci (All Too Human) on drums as well as a guest performance from Jackie Joyce (Scarlet Angel).

RTR is a full concept CD with a running time of 80 minutes. Audio clips will be posted as soon as I have final mixes.

Until next time....
Gordon

EPICA - Design Your Universe. Out October 16, 2009.

You don’t believe in fairytales at all? You think there is no more romance today? Yes there is! Both - the history and the music of the dutch formation EPICA resembles to a magical myth. The majestic mix of Classical music, Gothic and Heavy Metal could be the soundtrack of a fantasy epos as well. Mystical synthie parts mix up with orchestral bombastic choirs and a classical set up at its best. Over the top you find the ravishing beauty and vocalist Simone Simons with her operatic and dynamic voice, which enchants everybody and everything.
“Design Your Universe” is the fifth album of the sextet, a record that bursts up boundaries and makes your breath slow down. EPICA never sounded that intensive and unique, so versatile and hymnic. Songwriter Mark Jansen has exceeded himself and presents the most mature, heaviest and best album to date.
In their homecountry The Netherlands EPICA are superstars already, the previous studio album „The Divine Conspiracy“ entered the Top 10, while it charted on a great position 29 in Switzerland and 41 in Germany. In may 2009 the first live album in their seven years lasting career has followed, recorded at the hungarian town of Miskolc, along with a huge orchestra and amazing choir. "The Classical Conspiracy" not only included their own hymns and classics, but also filmscore tracks from „Pirates of the Caribean“ and many others.
„This album almost killed us. We worked our asses off and went much more into detail than ever before“, says Mark. With their new guitar player Isaac Dalahaye also a brisk wind came into the band and helped them to enter a new dimension. “He brought new energy, motivation and inspiration. Exactly what we needed for this album. This gave us the possibilities to develop our sound and integrate new elements“, so the praising words of his mentor. The Belgium magazine „Rock Tribune“ even predict them the final breakthrough on a commercial level. „All elements that made EPICA big are perfected on this new album. Choirs, angel like vocals, deadly efficient grunts, crazy rhythms and great melodies..”, points Dominique van Hautighem of the magazine out.
„There's nothing I would like to change now. This album sucked all the energy out of us but as it's for the good course you won't hear me complaining“, says Mark, who is known as a perfectionist. The album was once again produced, mixed and mastered by Sascha Paeth (Avantasia) at the “Gate Studio” in Wolfsburg, while Amanda Somerville (Avantasia) recorded Simone's vocals.
It is not a concept album this time, but still a red line leads to all the tracks, who talk about freedom and liberty. „We should start listening to nature again and live in harmony with it, just like ancient people did already. We are creating the world around us by ourselves“, demonstrates the message of the album.
In October and November, EPICA will tour through Europe, while in early 2010 the band will go on a ride through the USA and Canada. Meanwhile everyone can enjoy „Design Your Universe“ and design your own dreams and fairytale with it. You don’t believe in fairytales at all? You better should - to „DESIGN YOUR UNIVERSE!

Really looking forward to this after the excellent "The Body Parts Party"

Progressive rock band Osada Vida returns this Autumn with their third full-length album - “Uninvited Dreams”. Their brand new offering is a follow up to the highly acclaimed albums „Three Seats Behind A Triangle” (2007) and "The Body Parts Party" (2008).

Rafal Paluszek (keyboards) says about their work in the studio: “When we started to work on a new album in early February, we were focused on one thing - there would be no compromises. We had no idea what the title would be, how expensive gear we would have to use to record it, or what the front cover should look like. What we all were sure about though was that on our new album a lot of things would happen. When composing, we realized how much the new music is diversified. Therefore, good mixing would be very important and had to be done by professionals. Marcin Chlebowski, with whom we had a pleasure to work for the third time, did a great job as an engineer and a producer of the new album. He managed to strengthen the power of the heaviest parts as well as emphasize the gentleness of more atmospheric moments, giving them more space. Thanks to him the music sounds now very selective. This album has definitely the best sound of all Osada Vida’s releases.”

As it was with their previous releases, Osada Vida manifests a wide variety of influences and styles: symphonic prog-rock, neo-prog, prog metal, alternative rock and metal. “Uninvited Dreams” is yet another concept-album that draws from the tradition of ambitious rock distinctive of Yes, Porcupine Tree and Pain Of Salvation.

“Uninvited Dreams” will be released by Metal Mind Productions on 23rd November in Europe and 1st December in USA (via MVD). The album will be available in two editions: as a standard jewel case CD and as a digipak with bonus tracks. More details to follow soon!

No, nothing at all. Not band, label or individually.

I've sent them a mail but not holding my breath.

With Enchant working on their follow up to "Tug Of War" it doesn't seem likely we will see anything soon, assuming they use Ted Leonard again, of course.

In the meantime you could always catch Michael Harris on tour with his live band. The Michael Harris Tranz-Fusion. Wink
