Jealousy is probably my favorite short track.  Ghost Of The Red Cloud is great as well.
Also Touch my Heaven is fantastic (okay, 6 minutes, but that's still a short track by their standards, right).

Actually, I think Paradox Hotel has most of my favorite FK short tracks on it, just great stuff.

I also love Road To Nowhere and Hudson River Sirens Call, as well as the previously mentioned Babylon (though I don't like Cosmic Circus at all).  Dream On Dreamer is a great and really short track as well (just love the saxophone on that one).

Man, I could go on and on!

Nice review, well thought out and well spoken.  I need to get back into the habit of reviewing.  I don't think I've done anything this month.  I was busy writing up my review of 3RP, then some of the stupid politics on here lately have gotten me a little down.  It's time to jump back on the hand grenade so to speak.

I think this is my first review in August, Tom. After I went on vacation, I've been pretty busy.

Good review Big smile - I looked through a few of your reviews out of interest. See you gave ELP BSS three stars and I can understand that as ONLY the first impression of Karn-evil 9 is worth listening to - but those two parts (as one track) would get into my top 20 prog tracks of all time and thus I'd be tempted to see it as a five star album because of the one bit of genius that sticks out like a sore thumb amongst the rest of the dross that makes up the rest of the production.
Just purchased The Flower King by Stolte - looking forward to listening to it this weekend.....
You have a few more FK's to review looking forward to reading them.
Have you heard Shooting Albatross by Abel-Ganz? - Highly recommended !!!

ELP as an entirety never clicked with me. I have Brain Salad Surgery, Trilogy, Tarkus, their S/T album, and some crappers like Love Beach, but I just can't get into them for some reason.

My next Flokis review will probably be Unfold the Future, but I have a lot of work to do with them. I have never heard Abel-Ganz, but I will keep them in mindThumbs Up

Funny how these things go, I absolutely love Brain Salad Surgery, every track (well, Jerusalem is a bit plain, but it fits the concept of the album I suppose).  Karn Evil Second Impression is my favorite thing on the album, and the "song" as a whole is the best thing ELP ever did in my view and a brilliant piece of prog music.  They did loose me with Works however, and I've never heard Love Beach or the 90's albums (though as a teenage I liked the ELPowel album but have not heard it since then).  All the albums prior to BSS have great material on them.

And Jef, good review, nice work!  Clap

Nice review Jeff Clap.  Hopefully that will boost the average somewhat, particularly given your ranking as a prog reviewer.

Touching on BSS, I absolutely adore it.  Karn Evil 9 as a whole is just amazing.  It's staggering to think I've now liked that music for about 35 years.  All of a sudden, I feel really old.  Benny The Bouncer is a bit throwaway but it only lasts a couple of minutes so I'll forgive that.  I love Toccata, a fantastic track with Palmer at his very best and Jerusalem is fabulous, real spine chilling stuff.  Check out my review of BSS, I think it's one of my better onesTongue.

ShockedHow the hell did you manage to get hold of that Rob?   I've been trying to find it for ages without paying a fortune, without success.  It's about as rare as rocking horse s**t on the fast lane of the M62.

Thanks to progrules I do know this masterpiece.  The title track is great, Humanizzimo is a stunning epic, but Dissonata is the best.  What an incredible song.  Enjoy it!!

Hey Tom, I thought the reviews had dried up a little LOL.  You'd been on a streak of great reviews there so you deserve a break.  Compare that to me.  I manage a review or two every three months or so.  I just find it hard to condense a review and it's therefore such a time consuming exercise.  Unfortunately I never seem to get enough time......

Politics and Stupid.  The words usually go together well, but how did they get to you buddy?

And as for jumping on that hand grenade, sounds a bit painful even for the TFK cause.

Wow, I had no idea it was hard to get.  Greg Walker has it for $14 at http://synphonic.8m.com/.  He's been my prog dealer for many years, and is the person I got all of my initial FK purchases from back in 1999.  He is a US vendor, but I think he ships overseas as well.

For what it's worth, in 1999, I paid $18 for individual FK albums, and $23 for doubles!  They were import only then.  I still have all the original Foxtrot releases Smile  Alive On Planet Earth was their first Inside Out release, and I got it for $12 (!) at the CD store I worked at at the time (I pestered the buyers until they got every available FK release.........sadly, most of them were sent back because no one bought them for several months, despite my pushing the band on anyone and everyone I thought might be interested, as well as playing their albums in the store when I was working).

Got mine from Greg Walker for $20.  Still pricey, but they are $23 at Laser's Edge.  Also, the original, buy direct from Roine offer was I believe close to $30.

I have just added that url to my music sellers favourites - I had a look and for us here in Manchester, England, UK it would be $6.00 postage so it would have to be a good price to beat a uk seller me thinks.
Ta for the link anyway because you just got to have as many sources of prog cd's as possible - I reckon I have 600+ CD's in my collection and I want it to be nearer 1000 before i'm 46 !!
