Flower Kings Appreciation Thread

Oh well, now I've gone and done it.

This is my first serious post on the thread for quite some time, but friends will remember that I was giving Adam & Eve a go to see if I should add to that and Stardust We Are & Unfold The Future. I love it. It's a great LP, and I am a definite fan.

So....I've now gone and blown all of my spare money on the ENTIRE TFK collection...Yes, all of them!!!!

It will take quite a few weeks, but I will report back in periodical intervals with how I am getting on with them. I can't wait to start listening

Cheers all. New listening experiences are always great aren't they? As I type this, the MP3 player is busy.

I will get round to proper reviews in the next few weeks, time permitting, and, of course, once I have had a chance to assimilate all the music. However, at the moment, I would give Stardust a 4.5 rating, Unfold 4 stars, and, probably, dam & Eve a similar rating.

Barney - in view of the delay, can you send the girls round to the local pub rather than home?

Posting to say that I just listened to Space Revolver for the first time, and it's made a believer out of me. My only prior experience with them was a couple years ago, before I was really into prog and I checked out Adam and Eve on a whim, not caring for it at all. I was somewhat relieved to see that it wasn't one of their higher rated albums.

The Road Back Home is awaiting me for the ride home, and probably the ride to and from work tomorrow, and the ride up north on Saturday and....  Well, that's what happens when you have a short commute and a double CD.

I've had Stardust and Flower Power in the car for the past week, still love them after 10 years of listening (can't believe it's been that long!).

Actually, I was fortunate to have a PM exchange with sinkadotentree, who has sent me 12 (!) of his 3 star albums.  Just sent them to me, for free.  What an excellent human being.  Anyway, I picked 8, and he randomly chose the rest.  Have listened to a few of them now, like the Beardfish (Sane Day, I have the two Sleeping in Traffic albums and like them a lot).  Also love the Maneige album, Les Porches (a french Canadian band from the mid 70's......folk prog).  Satellite's first album did nothing for me, and honestly seemed very cheesy to me.....but to be fair, I'll have to give it more listens (first impressions don't always hold you know).  Phideux's Doomsday Afternoon had a similar impression, though I like it a bit better.  Again, will give it more time.   That's as far as I've gotten so far, but I'm just thrilled to have new stuff to listen to as I've been too broke to buy anything for a few months now.  I did scrape money together to preorder Tomas Bodin's solo album (of course :-) and to get The Opium Cartel album.

Right - I had to use an MP3 editing tool to merge the parts of the Garden of dreams into 1 seamless track and then cut out the daft bit of "I am the sun part one" - I should be able to listen to all the epics till I have my order of preference sorted -Cant see Monsters & Men or Stardyst we are being shifted from one and two in either order because they both can be used as the paradigm for symphonic prog rock perfection.

So, because of their large discography, I scanned the first few pages and picked out what looked to be a good starting point (Space Revolver). I was going to go with Stardust We Are, but I figured that a single album would be a much less daunting listen (it's next, though!). Cheers.

Kind of echoing what Nov said, but thank you for the post.  Most of the time it's just us rambling along about whatever.  It's very gratifying to hear that we're helping to bring new listeners in to a group that mean so much to us.  Glad you gave the Flower Kings another chance and welcome to the group :)

I am still trying to absorb the epics - Drivers seat and Love is the only answer got a spin this weekend - both superb ESPECIALLY the start of Drivers seat - sublime.

The song that actually grabbed me the most off of Stardust We Are was one of their shorter songs, "Ghost of the Red Cloud". It's got a great kinda reggae-ish groove to it and a cool electric piano sound.
