Mr Trane outlined his position as a reviewer - I think thats fair enough - He's not keen on Contemporary symphonic prog bands - His reviews reflect this............

Anyway I will shortly complete my Flokis CD reviews - only have three to do and the three earliest at that - who's betting on a straight 5 stars for the remaining three? OK whats next best FK associated CD given that you lot more or less know what turns me on.....

For Flower King related material, I'd recommend "Who's the Boss in the Factory" by Jonas Reingold and the rest of the Karmakanic tribe.  Enjoy

The Tangent is the most original in my opinion. While of course Karmakanic's Who's The Boss in the Factory is killer, I would have expected it more jazzy since it's a Jonas lead project...

Transatlantic also, SMPTe, is very Neal Morse though, but the epic 'All of the Above' is probably one of the shortest long songs I ever heard, if you know what I mean.

Rob, I second (third) the recommendation for Who's The Boss... by Karmakanic.  Fantastic.

Nice review of Stardust We Are by the way Clap.  I'm pleased to see you love the album as much as me (it's my favourite by TFK too) and glad to note your views on Man Who Walked With Kings - a really stunning track.

Here's an amusing thought, we should just get a standard response the the seemingly oft asked question "Where should I start".  It seems like every other week that someone new is asking where to start with The Flower Kings.

For the record, it takes a little longer to get back into the swing of things after a concert weekend, and I didn't drink at all this weekend.

This reminds me of a few years ago, when someone on the Flower Kings yahoo group asked about the best place to start with Frank Zappa's music.  I believe the shortest list of albums was 10!  The longest was around 30.

At least with TFK's, you only need 10 to have it all!  (though I would say 11, since I always count Roine's The Flower King as their first album)

As to Dark Side Of The Moon, it is a true masterpiece that I will never be able to listen to again (because of excessive radio play over the years, and excessive spins when I was younger).

As to Sum of No Evil, I thought it was their best album in years when it came out.  My feelings towards it have cooled a bit after many many listens, but I still like it better than anything since Unfold.  I agree that Love Is The Only Answer is not one of their best epics, but I like it considerably more than Monsters & Men from the previous album (though I do actually like that epic, unlike the ones on Adam & Eve).

Kaipa, The Tangent, and Karmankanic are great. If you don't have any Roine Stolt albums yet, definitely get The Flower King, and a few others.

eh, I didn't even take a camera with me, I just kind of sat there and listened.  I did take one picture of King's X with my phone, but that's cause I was in the center of the front row when they played.  I had to get a picture of that.  If I can figure out how to get it out of my phone, I'll post that one.

Here's something not done on here yet.  TFK are most famous for their epics.  Now I know this is tough, but how about trying to put all the TFK epics in your order of preference Confused.  Yeah, I know it's REALLY tough.  I'll have a go and I'd stress that I love all of 'em.  For this purpose I've classed "epic" as over 15 minutes, otherwise the list would be too long LOL.

1.  I Am The Sun (complete - 1 & 2 together)
2.  Monsters And Men
3.  Stardust We Are
4.  Garden Of Dreams
5.  Drivers Seat
6.  The Truth Will Set You Free
7.  Love Supreme
8.  Devils Playground
9.  Love Is The Only Answer

I feel really bad about about leaving the last couple so low down, but.......something's got to finish there.  Any other opinions?  I thought about posting this on "Top 10s and Lists" but thought it'd get more interest on our thread!!

I know exactly the bit of Devil's Playground you mean, and it's a bit annoying for me too.  I suppose there has to be the odd song/part of song that doesn't do it.  I know you hate the very start of Just This Once.  The start of Last Minute On Earth with that guttural growling (repeated later in the album) winds me up.
 
With The Truth Will Set You Free, that's not my fave TFK epic, but still a very good one, and an epic that would have been to these ears almost perfect had it not been for the section I referred to. 
 
This has given me an idea, TFK epics in order.  Mine is presently:-
 
1.  I Am The Sun
2.  Stardust We Are
3.  Monsters And Men
4.  Driver's Seat
5.  Love Supreme
6.  The Truth Will Set You Free
7.  Devil's Playground
8.  Love Is The Only Answer.
 
Not sure where I'd place Garden Of Dreams yet, I don't really know it well enough.  However, I'd stress that I love all these.  They're all 5-star songs for me, in fact 1-3 are about 10 stars LOL.
