I can see why people would like Thomas Lang, but I think he's practised almost to a point where he no longer suits a single piece of music. ;p

anyway I prefer old song-serving drummers like Dale Crover outta the Melvins - practically stationary compared to Lang, but so much more in tune with and appropriate for the music his band plays. I'd rather listen to Varg's drum mishaps than Roddy's almost corporate, inevitable blasting.

i suppose i'm one of those prog fans who, when the Bruford vs Peart battle rages, yells "CUTLER" from the sidelines ;)

I think that the performance of Gene Hoglan and Sean Reinert is wonderful. "Death" is one of the favorite bands of me.

By the way, I like Pete Sandoval.

I felt that it was wonderful because I listened to the performance of Terrorizer.

Mike Portnoy. He can tackle wild time signatures with a heavy approach, but keep it tasty, unique and unpredictable.

Let's not forget Vander or Denis either.. Wink

As for metal drummers, Bobby Jarzombek is unbelieveable. Portnoy on speed!

Tomas Haake, Mark Zonder and Stef Brooks are other personal favorites, and underrated too!

My favorite is the drummer for Rosetta. The subtle things he does are just incredible.

My vote goes for Mike Portnoy, he's brilliant.  I also like Pantera's Vinnie Paul though.  From ones not in the list, I admire Motorhead's Mikkey Dee.

Haake, Lopez and Portnoy are my three top dogs, in no particular order. Haake is the most rhythmically aware, Lopez is wonderfully fluid, and Portnoy has tons of character.

I'm glad to see so much love here for Lopez. He really was one of my favorites. Truly gifted.

It appears Portnoy is pulling closer to Danny.

Why has NO ONE put one up for Chris Adler?
He is one great drummer, and very crisp

^ I agree. Despite thousands of mainstream metal fans and LOG fanboys, Adler is worth his stuff. I'd even rate him above Portnoy.
