Pink Floyd came up before Genesis in my life... So, no Floyd, perhaps no other great bands, including Genesis.

genesis did more for prog, with amazing album concepts, stage shows, complexity of music and overall greatness! .. however pink floyd too did these very well, but were in a sense more commercially available

While I have fallen out of favor with Genesis over the years, I have never liked Pink Floyd.

I would vote for any Genesis album between 72 to 77 against the whole PF catalogue. Do I make myself clear?

I love both bands but voted Floyd. Me and Floyd go back such a long way. |
Or Candy and Currant Buns?
Same thought, same vote

For me, it's easy. Genesis. Pink Floyd is tied with ELP for my second favorites among the seventies bands, but Genesis is heads and tails above both of them.

Genesis is better. But no disrespect intended to Floyd. In more ways than one they're not comparable, but still an interesting poll.

Why must my spell-checker continually underline the word "prog"?

This is such a difficult question. It's like being asked to choose which of your children you love most! The first proper album I ever bought was Dark Side of the Moon (at the start of the Summer holidays in 1979 when I was just 15). The second album I bought was about 4 weeks later and that was 'Selling England by the Pound'. However, if a choice has to be made (reminiscent of William Styron's 'Sophie's Choice'), then I must go for Genesis.
