Hello Shedders, I am going to London in a few days as part of study abroad-ish thing (I'll be spending most of the time in Oxford), and since you are all from the UK, I wanted to know if there were any cool things I should do besides the obvious touristy things.

Oxford isn't London, for starters.
I'm only an hour away from Oxford, HP. You could always come and visit you know.
I'd actually recommend you visit old Oxford. Perhaps the Ashmoleum Museum, the Universities, or even perhaps visit The Roll Right Stones and perhaps even Wayland's Smithy.
I do not know London so well but it is vast, so I'd imagine you'll find plenty to do there.

some months ago i was doing some work on my family tree and discovered my Grandmothers family came from Oxford - some were fishermen - yes, fishermen in Oxford? many seemed to be earning a living from fishing in the river from boats in the 1700's and 1800's, my ancestors lived in a narrow street right by the river, i must go and see it this summer!
as for London Henry P., I have lived here all my life and still find many fascinating places to visit, most of the Touristy things are very worthwhile - check out the Hard Rock Cafe for rock history, some amazing history surrounds the Tower of London, or just have a very interesting walk along the Thames from Vauxhall bridge to Tower bridge and take in the Houses of Parliament, Millennium Bridge, Golden Hind (think its still there) and some great little Inns along the route, ending up at that funny squashed dollop building and a gherkin-shaped structure where a funny little blonde man with a German name lives...

Not Grandpont, perchance? My Great Grandfather was born at 3 Marlborough Road, New Grandpont, St. Aldate, Oxford. That's near the Thames and also by a bridge. There were also watermen and lightermen who worked on the river and don't forget boat builders too. Many of my ancestors lived near to the Thames (not just in Oxford but in Chertsey, Abingdon and Marlow). One of them, William Davis (possibly of Abingdon) also happened to be a Boat Builder.

They get bloody everywhere!

If you are in Oxford then you can always visit the Cotswolds and then perhaps:

My Dad lives in a small village called East Hanney which is about 5 miles from Oxford. Perhaps Harry could visit him and get drunk with him whilst listening to my Dad's vast collection of jazz recordings....most probably my Dad would put him to work in the garden and then tell him (Harry) to get on a bus...

Ha - by the wonders of wi-fi and the iTouch, We can post from the comfort of our hotel in St Johns - all fab, taken out for a meal last night, a few beers then a much needed sleep

The wife of my 3rd Great Grand Uncle was born in West Hanney but all I have is her name Elizabeth. No surname. It's most frustrating!

Thanks for the advice, I didn't think there was something more important than the touristy things, but I thought I'd check. And meeting somebody from the internet would be weird. :/
