You mean like lazy single welfare moms who watches Maury instead of trying to find a job? Although of course people don't seem to take into consideration that someone has to take care of the kids as well. I question how many of those people actually exist, since people usually are more or less rational and sleeping around without a condom is not rational, but even if someone does try to exploit the system, I don't see how one could justly do any of the first four options.
And I believe that the US was sterilizing retarded people, not moochers.

^ Where do they pay property taxes? They don't make enough money to purchase property and even if they did would be eventually caught by the IRS or the State for not paying taxes. How can a employer collect taxes on them? The SS number they gave him would be phony.
The only taxes they pay are consumer taxes and that is not enough for the state to overcome the services they use.

Property taxes are usually tied into the rent they pay. Oh wait, welfare pays for their rent, so that means you and me pay the property tax.

Even still it is the owner of the property that pays the tax whether or not he has a tennant. They are not paying property taxes.

You are really missing the point here. And I assume that the IRS is not infallible even if they did purchase a house. I have no idea how the details of the tax system work, but there are 11.6 million illegal immigrants, and I have trouble believing that every one of those jobs is under the table cash. But maybe I'm wrong.

Renters pay property taxes too, and I assume that the IRS is not infallible even if they did purchase a house. I have no idea how the details of the tax system work, but there are 11.6 million illegal immigrants, and I have trouble believing that every one of those jobs is under the table cash. I have no idea, although I suspect your perception of them is not entirely accurate. But you can't say that the system is so accurate that there is no way anyone who is illegal could ever be in a position to pay income tax and also say the system is so inaccurate that it hands out welfare checks to anyone who wanders into the office.

They hang around on the corners because they are day laborers hired by contractors and private home owners too cheap to pay a legale persons wages. They are paid under the table and don't pay taxes. They are in almost every town in California.

All I want to know, and it's a simple question and I don't mean to denigrate anyone, is why, when I'm in line behind them at the store, someone who is paying for food with food stamps also is listening to their IPod and making calls on their cell phone?

Cell phones are pretty much mandatory these days, and if you cut out the landline it's not more expensive. iPod is another matter.
