Hi prog-friends Smile

Senogul is currently involved in a new project, ORFEO: A BA-ROCK OPERA. It is an ambitious adaptation of Claudio Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo: favola in musica, one of the earliest operas to remain in the standard repertoire. This work will be arranged and conducted by Massimiliano Toni and premiered at XII Festival de Música Antigua of Gijón (north of Spain). Italian maestro Massimiliano Toni built a solid career as an organ and harpsichord player (he currently leads the ensemble La Terza Prattica) and has been assistant of great conductors such as Alberto Zedda, Jesús López-Cobos, Víctor Pablo and René Jacob. Stage direction will be managed by choreographer Deda Christina Colonna. Orfeo: a Ba-rock Opera will rely on several musical ensembles from Asturias apart from Senogul, such as the string section of the JOSPA (Youth Symphonic Orchestra from Asturias), the saxophone ensemble Sax Antiqua and teachers and musicians from the Festival’s antique instruments workshops. The ultimate line up will be detailed a few days before the premiere.

This performance, a perfect finale for the Festival, will take place on Sunday 26th July at 19:30h, in the church of LABoral Ciudad de la Cultura (Gijón, Spain). Free entrance, attendance is limited to capacity of the venue.

You can visit the official website of the Festival to find two texts (just in Spanish) which explain the magnitude of the project and its aesthetic characteristics. One of them is signed by Carlos González (manager of the Festival) and the other by Massimiliano Toni, head of the arrangement, who draws a parallelism between this project and the impact caused by musicians such as Arnold Schoenberg, Maurice Ravel, Charlie Parker, Bill Evans, The Beatles, King Crimson or Genesis).

Please follow the links below to watch two videos recorded at Taller de Músicos de Gijón during the first rehearsal sessions, showing Senogul, Sax Antiqua, Marco Horvat (opera singer who plays Orfeo) and Massimiliano Toni performing live "Rosa del Ciel" (first act) and "Vi ricorda ò bosch' ombrosi" (second act). Both videos are also available to watch at our myspace and at our progArchives section.

("Vi ricorda ò bosch' ombrosi")

All the best.

Hi friends. Thanks for the support to both of you Smile

There will be a recording. We hope also to see it available released on CD or DVD in a future. Depending of the premiere, maybe we can hold more representations. We keep you informed

All the best.
Eduardo
