Haven't heard any Rush as "elevator" music yet.  Oddly enough heard a Talking Heads song "elevator" muzakarized in a grocery store many years ago.

My vote is with the Beatles - Just out of interest I produce Lummy Days, a free monthly Podcast focussed around the eccentric British band Stackridge. Known in the early 70’s as “The West Country Beatles”, their eclectic melodies have thrilled fans over the decades. They have a number of Beatles connections.

In the latest show there are a number of Beatle related bits ... James Warren’s reflects on working with Beatle’s producer George Martin on Stackridge’s 3rd Album “The Man in the Bowler Hat”. Guitarist Andy Davis talks how about how he came to play on John Lennon’s Imagine album and have we discovered the re-incarnation of the Beatles in South East London?

Do your ears a favour, drop in and have a listen at

Rush for me. I have lots of respect for The Beatles and their impact on the prog genre and all, but personally I've never been able to enjoy listening to them, at least not in the way I enjoy Rush and other bands I like. I don't know why, maybe some day it'll click for me.

I do understand the question. But let me say these words. Come on, The Beatles are
the men in front. Front of the revolution in music. Their music has no name; but: The Beatles
Music. Just that. Many bands could named and batched by their type of sound. But The
Beatles could not.

Sting once said: The Beatles is a blue-print for any rock bands. I was thinkin' to myself, I could
agree with him.

And I think Rush did it too. Was tracking down the footsteps of their seniors. And they did good.
They found the idea. I like "Fountain Of Lament" a lot.

Rush had to work a lot more to get the success they have. I can't compare to the Beatles because of the different style, but i give my vote to Rush.

There are a lot of people voting for the Beatles because they're so influential, they're so groundbreaking etc.

But the poll asks, "Who do you prefer?"

I prefer Rush.
"The disgusting stink of a too-loud electric guitar.... Now, that's my idea of a good time."

Definitely Rush.  The Beatles are great, but I haven't yet heard a 20 minute smash hit by them.

Don't know how many have said it already (haven't plowed my way through the thread yet) but this isn't even a contest. At least not on a prog site, so Rush is the only one that could ever win.

So far, the Beatles are better than the others.
That's all.
