The router has to be set to "Auto 108 Mbps" or "108 Mbps only" - the "b and g" setting will only give you 54Mbps (b is 11Mbps and g is 54Mbps). Warning - if you set 108Mbps only then PCs with 54Mbps cards will not connect. 108Mbps SuperG works by using two 54Mbps channels in parallel.

But, first you have to discover what the wireless adaptor is in your laptop to see whether it is capable of 108Mbps in SuperG, but basically if it isn't a compatible Netgear adaptor then forget it. If you open Device Manager and look at your network adaptors you will see manufacturer and model number. A quick google of that should tell you whether it is compatible. The 108Mbps mode setting is usually a tick-box under Advance settings in the adaptor's preferences or toolbox.
What?

I've had a search on Google and there is nothing relating to whether it works in 108 Mbps or not.  That suggests it doesn't.

Now my old wireless dongle on my desktop may well work though, as that is a Netgear wireless adapter (bought at the same time as the router).  If I plug that in via USB, will it override the internal wireless adapter or will I have to manually switch it off?

That certainly puts my 30 gallon slimline butt in the shade

Chris!

Leave it!

So who's next in the game of butt-trumps?

Excellent.  I've give that a go later.  If it doesn't work, then there's nothing lost.

Can there ever be a correct answer to the question 'Does my bum look big in this?'.

Personally I'm with Sir Mixalot on this - and Dean, whose butt puts everyone else's in the shade.

Ah, but is it a butt? Not that I am a stickler for detail but this sounds more like a tank - a very enviable tank, granted Wink - I hope to be taking delivery of a 400 gallon butt in the near future. And yes it will look big but you know what they say - happiness is a big b.................. and will be about this big Hug.

At the moment I am using 4 220 litre butts and 8 60 litre dustbins. At the moment I am recovering about 70% of rain water from the house roof. Which at the moment is 70% of nothing Unhappy.

Thank God for the butt discussion, I thought for a minute I stumbled into Tech Talk by mistake. It's nice to know we can always reduce a serious discussion about wireless routers to innuendo about butts within a few posts. Big smile

Enter El Dingo in the Big Butt contest...

How does a 6,000 litre aluminium cisterna (tank) grab ya?

Downside is it's under the floor of the tiny chalet in Mallorca 'cos... there ain't no conventional water supply. Or electricity. Gas... you're having a laugh. I'm currently saving up for a solar system, and probably still will be at the turn of the nexy century.

In a perverse way it's quite cool having a well inside the building and it's great for washing oneself and ones clothes, but boy do we get through some 10-litre bottles of "proper" water.

So having a Big Butt can indeed not be the advantage it seems

Any advice on buying and installing the cheapest possible form of solar power (ie enough to run a TV, six lightbulbs a sound system and a fridge) would be greatly appreciatedTongue
It's not that I can't find worth in anything, it's just that I can't find worth in enough.

Well you can start off small:

and go up in size.

Some of the portable ones can power laptops and such like but I am not sure how much they power at any one time.

Or you can have completely tasteless. LOL

The answer's obvious:  it's the timing and delivery of said answer that is crucial.  Say it too fast, and she'll know you're just trying to placate her; but say it too slow or hesitate and she'll think you're lying.  And for God's sake don't actually look at her and actually assess the situation!
