We always just used to keep the garden tidy, but the addition of Ultima-Shed-Veranda-Thing really has inspired us to go for it - many plans being made - we've even bought a water butt to be filled from the guttering on the veranda-thingy

Actually, the last time I was in England (summer of 2006), I spent the last three days in Norwich. It was my first visit there, and I loved the place - even though it's somewhat awkward to get there by train. I feel so bad that I've not told El Dingo yet... I keep forgetting to do so!
Anyway, Jared is now in Wells-next-to-the-sea, at the local YHA hostel. He sent me the link to the hostel's web page the last time I heard from him, about two months ago.

Wells? We're holidaying in Norfolk this year and will almost certainly be paying a visit to Wells for a spot of crab fishing. I must pop in and see him.

If you've been to Wells before and know all the following I apologise, but just in case: IMO it's the best seaside location in the UK by a country mile. Georgian architecture at The Buttlands, the two best traditional fish&chip shops you'll find for miles, decent pubs and... that beautiful seascape.
If you want to, you can wade across from roughly the lifeboat station to the opposite bank, go another 500 yards and harvest the most beautiful fresh cockles. If you want to walk another mile across the sandbanks to the very edge of the North Sea, your reward is the most stunning view and a quite unrealistic solitude - so few people do this 'cos they don't know about it or can't be assed, but me and Mrs Dingo make sure we do every time we go. The sheer feeling of peace is unbelievable. You're literally "Close to the Edge" in more ways than one!
Don't worry - it's not really dangerous as long as you check with Peter the Coastguard before you set off - he'll tell you the tide times 'cos it's a bast*rd if you get cut off! In any case he sounds a claxon when it's time to come back. He wears a red polo shirt and looks like Captain Birdseye - you can't miss him!
There's loads more too - the woods, which sport a fair few muntjac, a boating lake, the famous local samphire (June/July as a rule) and some wonderful little shops on the road from the harbour to the town.
And if you do take your crablines - bait with bacon and sit on the harbour wall. You might not catch a lot, but there's always the shellfish stall - usually straight from the boat quite literally!
Enjoy

An egg heads team from The Shed? What a fab idea - although I believe James's confidence in me as a team member may be a tad over-confident... that said, it could be worth making an intellectual fool of myself on TV, just to get the chance of taking the smug Egg-Head captain to one side & giving him a good shoe-ing. |
Dermot Murnaghan: So, how did you all meet? Jim: Oh erm, well, this is the first time we've ever met fully although some of us have *parp*... excuse me... Dean: some of us have met before but we have never met as a team Dermot: oh so how did you train for Eggheads? Dean: we haven't; Jim here did write his action plan on the back of his copy of Pallas' The Sentinel though Jim: that I did *parp*... excuse me again James; Magma iss dëh Hündïn! Dermot: and I thought the Eggheads were weird... Andy: I'm enraged! Now look what Gordon Brown has done? Look! That's just despicable!

We have been there a few times, but thanks for the extra info. I will look out for Capt Birdseye. We did catch a few fair size crabs last time, just felt a slight touch of vertigo perched on top of the wall with a twenty foot drop into the sea!

Bit of culture for Vicky and I this evening - off for a couple of hours of existential angst & to watch absolutely nothing happening on stage for a couple of hours:
Waiting For Godot
Last time we saw this, Ben Kingsley & Alan Howard were in the title roles, but this time we have Patrick Stewart & Ian McKellan (and they're working from Beckett's original text); should be a good'un

I was forced to read Beckett for A-Level - Vladimir & Estragon - etc. Actually I might enjoy it now but I've always found forced study puts you off for life. The only thing that contradicts this is Chaucer, which I love to this day.

Similar instructions I gave to Vicky when we saw Patrick Stewart in Hamlet last year

Incidentally, I hope Godot shows up this time - last time, we were in the theatre 2 bloody hours & he didn't bother to make an appearance; hopefully, he'll have learned some manners by now

An awaited Godot never comes! ....or something.

Why, you don't normally. Anyway, so what's happening with The Shed's Egg Heads team? I'm up for it.
