It's being converted to tender use. They never had tenders, as they were tank engines.
I have no idea why they're fitting a tender to it but they are.  |

That's the thing though with Harry Potter. J.K. Rowling probably knows nothing about steam locomotives so when it came to filming, they could just find a suitable preserved loco to become the Hogwart's Express.
With Thomas and his Friends, Engines have to be repainted and faces added. In the case of The Mid Hants, they've completely convereted s saddle tank loco into a side tank loco and now they're adding a tender to another saddle tank. It's an old hobby of mine (not trainspotting, I never did that). I also have an interest in aviation.
All these old locomotives never change and I still remember far too much about them.  |

I doubt that JK had anything to do with the selection of the loco and on the contrary Warner Brothers wanted a Castle (or a King as they are very similar) but the axle loading limit on the Fort William - Mallaig line, where a lot of the filming was done, is too low to allow either to run there. Scott, Jared has recently moved from one end of England to the other because of his job, and has only visited here very rarely. Next Saturday is his birthday though, and I have already sent him the card I'd promised him a few months back. Hope he's got it!

BTW, Thanks for the info Raff. I knew that he had said that things were changing with his job, but I didn't realize that it caused him to move. It looks like he might have deleted his MySpace page too. He used to be one of my friends but I don't see him listed any more, unless I am just missing him.

He did indeed delete his MySpace page, but that was months ago... Anyway, I do miss him a lot - he's probably the person I miss most now. Having him as a teammate was a real joy, and I can't wait for him to come back in the fall. Colin and Pablo are wonderful guys, but Jared is closer to me in age, and sometimes this is an important factor.

This is a sad story but something isn't right.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/wiltshire/8063170.stm How can it be 82'? Unless it's not used. Locks usually only allow up to 72' Narrow Boats in. Pewsey is not far from Devizes and the Cain Hill Flight. There's no way an 82' Narrow Boat could move that way down the K&A. Therefore, I presume it was a stationary boat. |
