I don't quite get the purpose of not allowing to compare studio albums to live albums or DVDs in the charts. It was possible a few days ago, but the possibility to select multiple album types is for some reason removed.
Well, not a biggie. The question, however, is this: How come this album: http://www.progarchives.com/album.asp?id=19728 doesn't show up in this chart: http://www.progarchives.com/top-prog-albums.asp?salbumtypes=4&syears=2008&scountries=&sminratings=0&smaxratings=0&sminavgratings=0&smaxresults=100&x=68&y=1#list ? DAVID GILMOUR will not be listed in the TOP PROG ALBUM tool because he's PROG RELATED, same goes with PROTO-PROG albums now.

Okay, that explains it then.
However, this opens up for a couple of additional comments. First of all: I completely LOVE the chart mechanism (top prog album tool). The changes you did to it some time ago, when opening up for charts for seperate (or comparative) years, countries and genres were simply ingenious and made the tool very flexible and useful for comparison and research. These recent changes, though, I have a tough time understanding. I understand the wish to exclude Prog Related and Proto-Prog from the main (standard) charts that are displayed. But to remove the possiblity to rank these genres altogheter? To remove the option of including them - if so wished - in a comparison of all genres? Why? And I understand the wish to display studio albums as a standard. But to remove the option of comparing live albums, DVDs and studio albums? Why? In other words, I hope these changes are revoked - in particular that you make it possible to include non-strictly-prog categories in the charts for those who are interested. It would make it more user-friendly and increase the utility of the tool ![]() |

Based on suggestions and comments I've been able to tweak and add again the TOP STUDIO ALBUM list in each sub-genres pages. Including Proto-Prog and Prog Related.
Now, I find it obvious to prevent the PR and PP to be use in the TOP PROG ALBUM tool since thoses are not PROG ALBUMS and comparing them to prog ones, it's a mix that I don't support anymore. You can however use a NOTEPAD and do it manually for your own interest and share in the FORUM the results ;-) What do you think ? |

Question for M@x: now that we're talking about those great top list options: I missed out on the change some time ago when the maximum albums shown was brought down from 999 to 250. Was there a technical reason for that ?
Or did you contemplate and decide that 250 was more than enough ?

if ones use the TOP 250 query often , it load the server in pushing the cover image a lot, I can tweak to allow the cover for the TOP 100 only and the supplementary albums be listed without covers.
? what do you think |

That's a good idea, M@X. You could have an option for users to turn covers on, and I guess most people wouldn't.

Wonderful. I even found a way - by manipulating the web adress - to allow the chart tool to do the calculations rather than my notepad ![]()
I think that's reasonable. If anyone wants to have a look at the cover they can visit the album page. But russellk's idea to make it optional but not standard is perhaps the better idea, given that it's technically possible. In general, people like options. But they get grumpy when options are being taken away from them. (That's a very fundamental rule of thumbs for system developers as well as politicians.) Hence my first question, as we discussed above ![]() |
