Umm, most Libertarian's are far from anarchy. They are just against having the government try to run everyhting in the world, which is what both of the main parties seem to want. I think some of them go to far, but if a few more got elected it could serve to pull this country in the right direction.

Not sure if this is really, "political" but supposedly Wanda Sykes was at the White House and said that since Rush Limbaugh said he wanted the country to fail, he is a traitor...then called him the "20th Hijacker".
My conservative roommate is flipping out. Although its a clear exaggeration....I cant say shes that far off. He DID say he WANTED the country to fail to prove how bad Obama is. Pretty messed up. But I never pay much attention to Rush. And if we get into a "whos crazier debate" Rush or Ron Paul well...thats a toughie |

I have difficulty saying why anyone would want to be a Republican, but I would assume it's because they haven't realized how silly the Republican's economic ideas are at this point but since the Libertarians are obviously crazy (I mean seriously, Somalia shows that anarchy can work out ok?) they can't go there.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the only reason Ron Paul is. He has more in common with a ham sandwich than Rush Limbaugh.

They want a chance to win. Libs have as much chance as Greens.

Can someone please clue me in on why anyone would want to be a Republican. The only reason I can think of is liking to dictate morality on people you don't know. For all else, there's the Libertarian party.

I read a great Mark Twain quote today, which I think is appropriate:
"I am not one of those people who when expressing opinions confines himself to facts."

I want them to make a robot to deliver the news. That way the damn pundit hero worship can stop. Ooh, mine screams louder than yours, gimme a break. I love the "debates" too.
Host: "Thanks for coming on my show. Guest: "Your welcome, I really..." Host: "No, you're wrong and let me tell 50 reasons why, blah, blah, blah" Guest: "But" Host: "Wrong again, blah, blah, blah, blah" *Guest smiles to try to conceal the rage* . . . more inane garbage here . . . Host: "Thanks again for coming on." *Guest nods politely, then presumably takes a shotgun and ends his life* Edited by Deathrabbit - May 08 2009 at 21:29 |

Why do people even pay attention to Keith? The only difference between him and Rush is that Keith is occasionally funny in between the tirades.

Well, if you stop my quote where you did, it sure sounds so. But if I meant to day the majority are I would have said it. Just because every orange is a citrus fruit it doesn't follow that every citrus fruit is an orange. But, it's hard to say. Most of my research in that regard consists of listening to C-SPAN viewer call ins. And what I hear republican pundits saying. ![]() It's no longer cool to be openly racist like it used to be in the good old days (but when they get behind closed doors). ![]() So if you are a Republican and proud of it, I would never accuse you of being one without getting to know you better and you showing yourself to be one. Fair enough? Edited by Slartibartfast - May 08 2009 at 19:42 |

Oh right! That is so much better!
This makes it sound like you think the majority are. Is that true? |

Touched a nerve, eh?
I've never said that and if you happen to be referring to the cartoon, it doesn't say that either. It says "racist tendencies". But let's face it, while not every Republican is a racist, most racists are Republican by default because they can't stand what the Democrats stand for, except for the real hard right extremists, who find the Republicans to be too moderate.
A little history lesson, 100 years ago, 1909, Democrats were mostly racists, granted the Republican party wasn't much better, but it was dominated by the plutocrats. Reconstruction after the Civil War had been a failure. The south was segregated and dominated by racist Democrats. Blacks were by and large were Republicans because it was the party of Lincoln. Racist whites were Democrats, because they couldn't get over the Republican party being the party of Lincoln. Fast forward to the '60's. Johnson's support of civil rights turned off the racists in the Democratic party. Nixon began the "Southern Strategy", to welcome them in with open arms. Southern racists in particular abandoned the Democrats on the presidential level, but stayed that way on a local level. Eventually many southern racist politicians got over Republicans being the party of Lincoln and you saw many of them start to switch parties until eventually they all had abandoned the Democrats. Now as even more moderates are leaving the Republican party, they are starting to distill into something rather ugly. The racists, the religious extremists, the greedy. Not a broad brush I'd paint all Republicans with, but it's the truth. Edited by Slartibartfast - May 08 2009 at 07:05 |

Yeah, the Greens had similar problems. They have some issues that stir young people, but have served them up with candidates akin to watching paint dry. I personally don't mind dry speakers but in this day you need to have effective communicators.

Yeah, they're the closest that come to my views; I was the one around the Shred who had the notorious reputation of being a huge Rand head (though I don't see it as notorious, haha). David's views are kinda similar to mine, but he leans more Republican and I lean more Libertarian, in general terms. I don't really like the Libertarian party much as it is though; I think it's just a big of a joke as the two major parties and it really needs one strong candidate to pull it from the realms of insignificance if it wants any chance at all. They fit the closest at times, but I still don't really have a political home. Edited by MovingPictures07 - May 07 2009 at 21:07 |
