I heard today The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin is being released on DVD, I'll finally get a chance to see it proper |
An updated version is currently being shown with Perrin being played by Martin Clunes; I watched the first episode with gritted teeth, but the writing's good - they've not just gone for a remake, more an homage (down to the fact Clunes's office building is next door to one for 'Sunshine Deserts') and I think Clunes plays it well.
The only problem I see at the moment is the appalling use of obviously canned laughter throughout - so loud in the sound mix it really does detract badly from what could be a good series.
[edit]
There's a thought - patron saint of The Shed... St Reginald Of Perrin? |
That was presactly my reaction - and some of the 'jokes' were a tad thin - then I was never a fan of the original series, which suffered from the same problem, no matter how many times you repeat a poor joke it never gets any funnier.
Clunes is always funniest when he's not being funny.
|
According to an interview with Martin Clunes this morning the show was filmed before a live auduence. Mind you he did say that they laughed at anything.
On the whole I thought it was a good attempt thought don't you mean 'Sunshine De erts'? What was your instant thought when he walked passed the entrance to Sunshine De erts? I thought 'hang on, he's missed the entrance' - nice one.

Live audience? I gues the guy with the "LAUGH NOW" board was working overtime that night...
...overall though, I think it was done well - when he was sitting with his wife's womens' group, I couldn't believe it when he came out with that joke

Let's just say it's a less than savoury joke in pretty poor taste.

No Sheep 'til Buxton!
warning - extremely crude video, and the lyrics contain words even ruder than 'bottom'.

Been out in the garden - so much to do at this time of the year. Anyway with a bottle of pear cider in hand - remember pear drops - now that one is retired I find that I am more governed by the weather/seasons rather than a calendar. And with all the sunny weather we have had recently its been out in the garden (veg plot really). The rain we had in the last day or so was really welcome, and the right sort of rain - gentle rain for a long period rather than a quick downpour. My butts are almost full..................................................

Not me! I had one once, but it was too much like hard work.

+++resists butt jokes+++
We don't have a large garden, but it's an OK size (not overlooked at the back either, which is nice); for the last few years we've just kept it relatively tidy, but with the work being done on the back of our house in a couple of weeks, we have a fair sized bed to clear this weekend (luckily a couple of friends are going to assist on Monday weather permitting) - the main thing I want to do is move a 7 foot spruce, a hebe & 2 rhododendrons, so busy busy busy.
Once all the work's done by the beginning of June (again weather permitting), then we're going to be looking into getting the rest of the garden as we want it - ie good looking but low maintenance.

A quick question for the rest of you Brits.
Do I need a passport to travel to France?
I want to attend the RIO Festival in September in Carmaux and plan to travel via Euro Tunnel and SNCF.
Is it best to have one even if I never have to show it?
I do plan to get one eventually.

Fraid so, James - no option but to get a poor photograph, spend an hour filling in a form making sure never to write outside the boxes, get your photo & application form signed by a 'person of standing', send it off with £80 odd quid, then wait for a little booklet which customs will barely even look at.

...and don't you have to have a face-to-face interview as well now.
In which case you might as well stay in England James

Saw the Aussie Pink Floyd perform the Wall in its entirety last night. Followed by Shine On, One of These Days and Wish You Were Here, finishing with Brain Damage/Eclipse.
Excellent sound and light show and very competent musicians.

Getting photos signed is the easy part. I have two Doctors live one side of me and a Civil Servant the other side. Now getting the photograph accepted is apparently much more difficult... No smiling, no hats, hijabs, glasses or holding up Pallas albums in front of your face. You basically have to look like a criminal and show no emotion. So even though France is in the EU along with England, I still need a passport?
