I don't understand why the popular artist links on the homepage mentions a couple of bands which don't appear to have released an album (never mind I've never even heard of them...).  Nothing personal but can Mammoth and what the Blood Revealed really be amongst the top 40 most popular bands on PA?

I was thinking to the same thing few days ago. Probably this has something to do with the current popularity level in terms of reviews written for that band/artist or simply visits on their page. I've checked some of the bands and not all of them seems to have recent reviews. So probably there is some another criteria behind. Maybe one of the back end guys can bring some light to this topic.

It's not based on ratings it's based on number of searches. Besides, who's complaining when it's bringing new bands to your attention?

Not complaining, just curious. Thanks for clarifying.

Actually guys, it's based on the artist pages with most pages viewed the day before.

Ah.  Now I wonder if curious twerps like me are linking to those pages through the top 40 bit and thus inflating stats for artist page views which are then reflected in the links featured.... ?

Sorry, I clearly  need to get out more.

I saw this post, n checked out the list myself. And what a surprise i got. My countrymen Gazpacho has manage to get into to pa alltime list on place number 10 with their latest album. Woot for that n congratulate.

It seem that abroad, Gazpacho has really got it going. But in Norway, the band gets no writings in nor the tabloid media or any music magazine, which i find really strange after their 2 latest albums.

Seems that to make it big here, u have to make really crappy commercial music, like getting a song into Melody Grand Prix (im getting sick, just thinking about it) or do some stupid non-music things to get into the media, like dagbladet.no or vg.no. But not even more serious magazines like scream, newspapers like aftenposten, which do have some good writers, dont manages to keep an eye out for norwegian bands who do it good abroad, except certain metal bands or jazz musicians. Too bad really, cause we do have some good rock bands.

To non-norwegians, i would recommend Motorpsycho. Maybe not a prog-band, but absolutely prog related, n i find it stranged that they`re not to be found on progarchives, cause they have several long progressive tunes, from their now 20 year as a band.

Cheers
