We had an albino in our garden for one summer, but never saw it again (I guess they stand out to predators a bit too much)

No - that was taken in St.John's Newfoundland a couple of years back & a bugger of a shot it was to get, too; every time I went to hit the shutter, the little sod moved - took about 15 minutes to eventually get it.

Only ever seen a couple of black squirrels, but they are evidently encroaching into north Hertfordshire, so I expect we'll be seeing more of them soon.

squirrels are very cute, better than the raccoons and skunks that roam our neighborhood, I don't mind them but they get into everything and scare the cats!

We've got pretty much all grey over here, though I have seen a black squirrel once or twice.

Squirrels do seem to be one of those creatures which divide opinions - not being a hugely avid gardener, I love having the little sods running around & confusing our cats, but having said that I do understand those who suffer damage from them having a less than high opinion.

$460 dollar fine for feeding one? That's over the top, though... does the park in question have a serious infestation of them?

I doubt it - despite the hordes of squirrels in our area, there's always enough in the bird feeders to satisfy them and the bird population.

The only time I want to shoot the little buggers is in late July when they take all the cherries off our tree & leave Vicky and I with one each (if we're lucky - ); other than that, I'm more than happy to accomodate them
