I've been on other sites where we as a group thought nobody "famous" tuned in. We were wrong.
This is the biggest prog site on the net, do you honestly think DT doesn't check it out once in awhile? And if a specific thread referring to them and their galactical johnsons came up, you don't think someone in their entourage wouldn't say, "hey mike, this is pretty funny, check this out."

They don't have enough time to go to every site that mentions there name. They have instructional dvds, photo session with henry, they are busy people, they don't have time for a Music Nerd website.

I don't find anything that funny in the original pic... it's just a typical progressive-metal pic....
Though H. Plainview's adaptation is actually good... 
Of course, besides that point, is very curious how super-intelligent people dismiss an album before listening to it, just based on one picture....

I personally think that the photo has absolutely nothing to do with what's coming except that I doubt it's going to be pop.
Of course the actual members of the band don't troll all the sites that mention them. But their social group is sure to include people that wander through here, and I wouldn't doubt if they have people whose job it is to see how fans (us) are reacting to promotional material. If it's funny (or really negative) then it gets back to the actual band members.
In our case, if a humorous photo with luminary cocks were to appear, receptive childish bandmembers (Portnoy) might hear about it.

If you can't find enough info in that image to be able to read what king of music you're gonna get, you should be more worried about your own super-intelligence. Based on that photo I know that DT haven't changed into something I can listen to. Its plain obvious. I can probably teach you how to read images better, if you want to. Like you say, its a typical progressive-metal pic... for a another typical progressive metal album.
