Thanks man, nice to see you too and it's nice to be back.
Nothing much going on,just had to step away from PA after the death of my mother.I had no desire to do anything here anymore after that.
Quitting the PMT was f**king hard though,it felt like I was abandoning my child. It was necessary though.I was tired of doing all that work on top of admin duties. |
Well... after you left I did quit the PMT for a while...hehe but came back.
|
I might rejoin sometime, but that would be far in the future.

I'm sorry homie! Well I think I speak for all of us when I say that I'm absolutely thrilled to see you back.
You havent missed much anyways IMO. I need to get back on my post rock duties, the thing is is that my musical tastes have gone all over the place, and post rock hasnt been at the top of that list lately...
Except for in a safe place, which is a masterpiece!

I haven't really looked through the last few pages of this thread but was very curious about what you guys thought of Mastodon's new album?
I think it's very good but quite a change in direction, with a more spacey, psychadelic vibe to it.Dailor's drumming is a tad bit more restrained than on previous releases though, which was a bit of a let down for me.He's still awesome though. |
Hey Jody, great to see you back again! I think Crack the Sky is fantastic, very different to Blood Mountain and Leviathan but I cant stop listening to it. Dailors not as frenetic this time but I think his performance still blows most drummers into the weeds.

Anyone heard of Aeons Past by Element?
A fast paced tech death metal album. Very recommendable stuff and of high quality I might add.

Hi,
You probably missed it then ...
Some bands were prog metal before you and I were born!
Hawkwind was always metal in many ways ... and is far heavier than Dream Theater ... and does not need a guitarist that can play 154 notes in 15 seconds!
This is one of the reasons why I don't like labels ... music is music ...
Hawkwind went from what used to be know as acid rock, to space rock, to ambient to sonic rave, to ... no terms for it ... that is quite a progressive scale of styles ...
Guru Guru in their first 5 albums extended Jimi to ... the way you really wanted to hear him do ... but sadly ... you can hear Jimi, but won't check out Guru Guru ... too progressive for guitar players I guess.
Amon Duul 2 was so progressive and out of town for 6 albums that folks here don't even know what the music and lyrics were all about ... and some still think that it was just some kind of drug crazed idiocy ... it's some of the most intelligently designed music you ever saw ... and of course they had the teutonic edge that helped define "krautrock" ... which was defined as "heavy" ... and via bands like Scorpions became metal ... and progressive only in the sense that it was just a bit more than Chuck Berry.
I like the Dream Theater and similar groups ... I like listening to Shadow Gallery, Fate's Warning, and some of the harder edged stuff out there on long cuts ... and folks that are trying to expand their own musical knowledge and trip ...
But saying that DT is progressive? Gawwwwddd ... when will it stop? It's great music!
