It was interesting to read today that Brawn fka Honda Racing have blown everyone away in their first test session. Could be an interesting year!
"That new Brawn has surprised everybody," exclaimed Massa, runner-up in last year's title race to Lewis Hamilton.
"Before Barcelona we were maybe one of the quickest cars, or maybe very competitive in the front, and now we are still competitive, but behind the Brawn." Asked if he could match the Brawn on a qualifying lap, an honest Massa replied: "No. And I think nobody can do. |

It would be nice to think that Button and HAmilton will fight for the title but I dont think the McLaren is their yet, real problems with the rear aero on that car so far.

^There will be a £30m budget cap put in place for next season, but its optional. If you agree to it, you get more technical freedom with the rules, if you dont the rules stay the same. I hope I'm not the only one here that sees that as an incredibly bad idea.

And the latest enstalment of the F1 soap opera.....
Renault, Ferrari and Red Bull all lodged protests this morning against the designs of the Brawn, Williams and Toyota cars rear diffusers (backed by BMW, who had their own protest thrown out on a techincality) but stewards have since thrown the protestsout. This means that the three teams are likely to appeal against the decision and that the results sundays Australian GP and next weeks Malaysian GP are both likely to remain in doubt long after the chequered flag has fallen. We're set to have one of the closest championships ever this year and F1 cant seem to stop shooting itself in the foot with needless controversy. |

I feel sorry for Vettel, he was the only guy that could live with Button today and now he has a 10 grid spot penalty for the next race for causing an avoidable accident. Trulli got a 25 second penalty for overtaking Hamilton under the saftey car at the end and so he lost 3rd. I think the new rule changes have worked, its easier to overtake, but its not too easy (just ask Rosberg).

Wow....I don't what Vettel did warrented that. Sure, it was stupid, avoidable, and took out two good cars, but it wasn't intentional, at least from what I could see. Its like not Vettel was able to benefit from it either...
And I wondered what happened to Trulli. Hamilton surely took out a large deposite from the luck bank this week.

Very interesting start. Last time someone started a season with a brand new team and got from pole to a win in the frist race was 1954 and the man was Fangio. Mr Brawn must be very pleased with his team and it looks like Jensen may well have his best chance of a championship this year.
As for Hamilton; he didn't get any luck at all. He was third when the safety car flags came out and was illegally overtaken by Trulli under waved yellow flags, therefore Trulli was demoted.
I agree about Vettel, there do seem to be some odd descisions made by the officials. I hope that we aren't going to have another season of controversial decisions like last year.

Was Vettel penalised for causing the accident, or for driving a Reliant Robin around the track when he should have pulled off?

What?

It appears that his team were penalised for telling him to continue when he should have stopped.

Both. He was judged (unfairly, IMO) to have caused an avoidable accident with Kubica so he got a 10 place grid penalty for Malaysia. The $50 000 fine was for the team telling him to continue driving around in his Reliant Robin. Malaysia could be interesting. As well as the late start time (5pm local time) meaning the drivers will have to race into the setting sun again, its also the time of day most likely to get cloudbursts, as has happened post race almost every year that the Malaysian GP has been held. |

I heard from a friend that the points system has been thrown out the window and the Champion would be decided by who had the most wins???
This true? And can I have as much detail as possible. Damn...Ive missed so much... |

^It was. The champion this year was going to be decided by the person that won the most races with points accounting for all the other positions. Effectively the champion could be the persion that finishes fifth in the chanmpionship, pathetic or what? FOTA pointed out that the change was made less than 20 days before the start of the new season and that all teams had to agree to it before it could be implemented, and they didnt agree to it, so were back to the old system.
And HAmilton has been disqualified from Australia's results for apparantly misleading the stewards about his and Trulli's overtacking under the safety car, Trulli has been re-enstated in 3rd. |
