I can't believe I discovered this band so late. Otherwise I could have seen Colors live

so you didn't go to see opeth. man i would kill to see opeth , but unfortunately they wouldn't come to Macedonia for 100000000000000000 years. . Opeth are only and enough reason for me.

Well the price was a little expensive to just go see Opeth and I'd already seen them live twice so it wasn't at the top of my priorities list.
Didn't want to see Dream Theater since I couldn't stand Systematic Chaos and after seeing the setlist there didn't seem to be much reason for me to go. Had already seen them twice too.
But now I feel like a jackass

Haha, well you definitely are.
Also, it would have been worth going even if you weren't interested in BTBAM. 3 puts on a great show (their live show is far better than their studio recordings), and even if you don't really listen to DT anymore, I feel that they still put on a great show every time. And I don't know what sets you saw, but when I went they played some older gems like Erotomania and Voices. They always keep the sets varied and pull from their back catalog. I don't find myself listening to DT as much these days, but if they come by my city, I'm definitely going to go.

It was mostly the ticket price and larger venue that made it not worth it for my desire to see the bands. Also from what I've heard of 3 I really don't like them.
The problem is I only really like the first 3 DT albums, and a few select songs after that. Their set didn't include enough for me to warrant going.

PAT HE IS A JACKASS. Yep, you're a jackass:P
I would have killed to have seen the 2008 Prog Nation's lineup of BtBaM, Opeth, DT and 3. Just like a lot of people, I don't listen to DT much anymore, but whenever they pull songs off ToT, I&W and Awake (my 3 favorites from the band with 5 star quality, everything else they did is below 5 star quality IMO) live, I just kinda want to jizz myself in excitement. I've pretty much always making time to listen to BtBaM, and I'm still kicking myself that I didn't have money to go and see them in January when they came out to Australia. At least I can sit at home and watch the Colors Live DVD. lol.

I'm not really into 3 either, but I have to say that their live show is quite good.
My point was more or less that even if you're not into the music of 3 or DT, their live show has a whole different dynamic to it that may be worth seeing even if you won't listen to them in your free time.
Awake is definitely not 5-star quality. 4 stars max. I think a handful of tracks on it are intolerable (6:00, The Silent Man, Lie, The Mirror), but the rest are great.
These are the DT albums I can listen to fully: I&W, Scenes, Six Degrees, Train of Thought. But for me there is enough good material on all of the other albums (minus the debut) to warrant keeping around.
Also, I'm sure I'm a bigger DT fan than both of you and they were really important in my musical development so my point might be invalid.

Well DT is most of the reason I listen to music along with Rush. They were the second most important band in my music development so your point is still valid.
However, Awake is by far their best album. I would easily take it over the rest of their discography combined if I had to make the choice. Lie and The Mirror are in my top 10 DT tracks.

Haha, interesting. I just really don't like LaBrie's singing on those tracks. They are otherwise good songs.

No more DT talk. THIS IS FOR THE MOST BRUTAL EXTREME METAL, NOT PUSSY LA BRIE SINGING.
Although to be fair, Train Of Thought can technically count as an extreme metal album:P

^Loved it at first, mainly because that first track is frickin' awesome. But as the album went on the goodness started to wear off. It's a bit too long and a bit too much of the same kinds of things. Obviously it's all good on an individual song level.
