Topic: "If you lived in the suburbs, you were issued it." Posted: March 07 2009 at 18:17 |
I believe Wayne Campbell said of Rumours, if you lived in the suburbs...you were issued it. 10 classic albums we sometimes ridicule.....but we've all heard them. Is there one that still turns your crank?

Boston's debut, definitely. Styx's isn't bad either, but I easily prefer their earlier stuff.

For me, it's between Lindsay Buckingham's amazing production talents at crafting quality pop-rock, Billy Joel's finest songwriting, and Ann Wilson's amazing voice over Fisher/Derosier (sp) jamming.
I gotta go with Heart.

Tough list. Came down between Fleetwood Mac and Eagles. Went with Eagles.

Oh, and I used to wear Boston out. Still do sometimes.

Rumours all the way. Wonderful album, and almost every song is a gem.

Close call between Rumours and Dreamboat Annie. Have to go with the Wilson sisters though; too many good memories with that one
Good list though, but I'd have gone with Head Games for Foreigner and Pieces of Eight for Styx. Useless trivia - Rumours is the album that kept Kansas' Leftoverture from making it to #1 on the Billboard charts in the spring of 1977. Kansas peaked at #2.

I've only gleaned Rumours and heard a few songs off Born to Run.

Boston's debut. I just spun it the other day, in fact! One of my very first purchases and still one of my favorite. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside

Rumours and Dreamboat Annie are the only ones I've ever heard. I only really liked 'The Chain' off Rumours (probably due to a part of it being used by the BBC for their F1 Grand Prix theme), but Dreamboat is one of my most treasured possesions - I played it so much that I wore-out the first LP I bought, the replacement didn't have the gatefold cover, so I replaced that with a mint copy I found in a secondhand shop, and then as soon as it was re-issued on CD I bought it again (I read somewhere that the recent remastered version is heavily compressed, so I've avoided it) - I haven't got the live version yet, but will one day.

Dean, you HAVE to hear the recent live DVD of Dreamboat, where they play the entire album cover to cover. It is beyond stunning how good they still sound.

Dreamboat Annie is a classic. What's there to ridicule about it?

Rumours for me. It's a fun album.
I'm somewhere between hate and indifference with all the other bands.

No, not really. I said *sometimes* and I believe most people knew what I meant, that occasionally these bands get some heat for being over exposed, as the Wayne Campbell quote at the top suggests. I think maybe Roc was just looking for something to be contrary about today.
