I hope prog hasn't lost it's luster on me...

I consider myself as having eclectic or well rounded tastes in music.  I not only like prog and it's numerous genres, I also listen to Death Metal, Black Metal, some Thrash, and a little alternative.  I also listen to Jazz, Jazz Fusion and Classical.  So, I never really get bored or tired of prog.  I will totally avoid like the plague certain types of music.  Which includes Country, Rap, most pop and your basic "Classic Rock" music typically played on those type of radio stations.  You know the ones. They over play Free Bird, Bob Seeger, Aerosmith, yada yada yada!  

Don't worry man , that sort of situations happen. There was a weekend in which I didn't play Brain Salad Surgery , so I can understand how you feel. It's better to listen to different stuff like Trilogy or Tarkus for a change.

I don't listen to music because it's *prog*, but rather because I *enjoy* it. I just happen to enjoy progressive rock more than the average music fan, and therefore it takes up a nice chunk of space in my cd collection.

It happened to me too, I cycle through music styles and it always comes back!

Talking about progressive music will help. I have to admit to talking a lot with a buddy of mine about music he and I grew up with. Bands like Kansas and Rush are a part of that, but that was before I was aware of this genre. To my prepubescent ears, it was just music. Plain and simple. I'm enjoying going back and re-discovering albums that I literally haven't heard in 25 years. Today, for example, when I spun Lionel Richie's Can't Slow Down after receiving it from SwapaCD (Excellent site, if anyone's interested). It was like I was hearing it again for the first time.

A band that I loved as a kid, but have gotten away from is Iron Maiden. I bought Somewhere In Time and that was cool to become reacquainted a particular 'sound' that made such an impact on me at a very influential time in my life.

Earlier in the week I spun 'Til Tuesday, Mr. Mister, Toto and Jackson Browne and it was such a breath of fresh air. I'll still spin my prog; but, I will begin looking at a very neglected section of my CD shelves from now on.

Not exacly what you asked, but today at work I listened to the whole How the West was Won by Led Zeppelin. WOW!!! I really re-fall in love with it and Led Zeppelin in general, which I honestly haven´t paid that much attention in the last three years... good to be back!

Actually.... F*CK PROG!! I am listening to Live at the Fillmore East by the Allman Bros. and it's amazing stuff

I can't get tired of prog cuz to me it's not a genre, but an approach to making/listening to music. Genre-wise, tho, I do switch it quite a bit. Primus to GG to Cynic to Beefheart to Beardfish to Neal Morse to Mahavishnu Orchestra. So I never get tired of one particular type of progressive music. The progressive mindset, however, I'd have to be a different person than I am to get tired of that. I will always hold orginality and creativity to be the defining characteristics of good music. Just my two cents.
