Need some guidance here. I really dig Hot Rats by Zappa, not sure which album I should go for next? I want something similar in style to this album, his discography is a bit overwhelming.

Similar in style? Get The Grand Wazoo, then Waka/Jawaka, and then Sleep Dirt.
Then for more of his awesome stuff, though different in style, get Roxy & Elsewhere, Over-Nite Sensation, One Size Fits All and Zappa In NY

Just thought I'd let you guys know I took a listen to Waka/Jawaka and right now I'm listening to the Grand Wazoo. Big thumbs up, thanks.

Yep. Definite nexts are One Size Fits All, Roxy & Elsewhere, Sleep Dirt, and Joe's Garage. Yay. It's fun. Revel watching all your money vanish into the pits of Zappa worship.

Zappa is very different in style - from jazz and rock, to experimental and electronic. So, be careful. There are lot of albums with short songs which are not prog at all. More friendly to prog-ear are: Waka-Jawake Grand Wazoo One size Fits All Overnite sensation These can be categorized as jazz-fusion , or even "canterbury" (we know, Canterbury is a place in England, not style of the music :-) but some Zappa pieces have feel of that )

Zappa's albums may be very different from one to the other, especially the classical ones. You liked Hot Rats, so maybe you would also like Chunga's Revenge, which is an interesting set of different albums songs.
Personnally, I really enjoy the Roxy and Elsewhere live album, but can you still have it on CD?
Anyway, Zappa is a world to discover, so you'll like some and won't like some. All you have to do is to keep what you like, as always.

Yeah, Roxy/Elsewhere is available on CD, Lestaf. Actually, the two-LP release has been compiled onto one CD, making it even more affordable. Very much recommended.
And while Chunga's has its moments, if you want something to strike you like Hot Rats did, don't go there just yet. I find it markedly underwhelming for the most part. There are some good tracks, but on the whole I think it's his weakest solo album until You Are What You Is ten years later.
