On tour every where you go in Europe (apart from France) you get sliced Dutch cheese for breakfast.......... we call it gig-cheese. Even the kids call it gig-cheese. It's the only time you could eat it, and then only cos you're STARVING!!!!

That's not the one I meant - what you're referring to as gig-chees hasn't aged at all, comes out of large factories that use steam dryers to ripen the cheese and then ship it off. If you'd give it time to ripen and age, it will taste a lot better, and you won;'t be able to slice it.

As with many things in life and lunchtime, there is cheddar and there is Cheddar - for some bizarre reasoning of bureaucracy, real Cheddar cheese doesn't have whatever the cheese equivalent of an Appellation contrôlée is, so any old tat manufactured in a pasteurised factor thousands of miles away from Somerset can pass itself off as cheddar. The real stuff is pale yellow, almost white in colour, not orange (which is just colouring), is crumbly and has a sharp tangy flavour that will bite back.

It also helps if you dress up in funny costumes and carry them arond the town square in wooden barrows
