OK, Girls perspective on the shoe thing.....

and I admit I USED to be a shoe-a-holic , then you know , I grew up and sorted my head out, it was a long time ago.
I have not bought shoes this year I don't think ................. hmmmmmm, no I lie, the beloved bought me some baseball boots for £5 in a sale. (they are falling apart QUICKLY)  other than those I probably have the same ammount of shoe-age as the beloved.
I have some flip flops ( 2 or 3 pairs as they get a LOT of wear)
A pair of hi-tec brown leather walking boots that have done me 6 years and probably a thousand miles. they really need replacing, but have earned "comfort blanket" status,  I LOVE them too much for a new pair!
I have some red "everyday" boots I tend to wear on my scooter cos they are pretty thick leather and I have seen a skinned ankle  even at slow speed, and don't want one for myself!
one pair of black pumps (like the old school PE daps)
one pair of trainers (I wear at the gym)
one pair of something sensible at the back of the wardrobe for funerals etc..........

That my dear fellows is it.

(I do have a fancy pair of shoes I NEVER wear but I kept because I wore them NYE '99into'00 which was when I first kissed the beloved..............)

I would MUCH rather buy a CD if I had some money I think. But I can't remember!

The reason, BTW I am making little or no comment is Vicky owns some serious footwear - eg:

And I really don't want to know what they feel like applied with force to one's nether regions...

Neil Armstrong was never that cool, Jared, neither was Buzz or the cameraman. Ermm

I think their boots were white and of the Luke Skywalker style.

I think Neil Armstrong's were considerably lighter, not to mention probably larger than a small size 3.

LOL ^ That's right, Vicky my dear -- just ask any bullet.

All else being equal, Jim would be much better off being kicked in the lowlands low by a pair of size 12s -- though there is also the length of the lever (leg) swinging said boot to factor into the equation.....Geek

Cool boots, BTW -- now you just need the dirt bike to go with them! Cool

'Tis true.

I somehow knew I shouldn't have asked that one...Ermm

would this be something to do with having found someone living in a yurt in Mongolia who has three feet, menaing that the human race has on average 2.000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 feet each??Confused

I'm sure I'll be (imminently) enlightened by one of the Shed's (many) wise old Sages on this one..Wink

It would mean that the unfortunate folks with one or zero feet brings the average number of feet to a value very slightly less than two.

It also highlights that sometimes it's important to know the distribution instead of only it's expected value.  Wink
Close Jared, but no cigar. It is those unfortunates who lower the average to 1.9999999999999999999 and so we are fortunate to have more than the average.

now, where does 'Jake the Peg' fit into the overall scheme of things?...Wink

That would depend on how many Jake the Pegs there are compared to Long John Silvers.

Shoes... grr.

I think the reason many women buy vast amounts of shoes is because it is so hard to find a pair that (a) look nice and (b) are actually comfortable!!

I'm a bit 'militantly comfy' myself. LOL  High heels... no ta.  <feminism> Why should female foot torture be considered sexy?!  Grrr... </feminism>  I think I manage to look nice enough from the ankle down, however. Tongue

but surely, Long John Silver did at least start with two legs, and mislaid one of them during a 'misadventure'...in which case wouldn't you have to work out a fraction, based on the percentage of his life spent with two legs, as opposed to the remainder spent with only one??...Ermm

Confused

on another note, I bumped into 'Jess' in town half an hour ago...a very friendly hippie type, who lives down the road, who was in a shop, openly admitting to having a bit of a shoe fettish...I asked her how much she would spend on average on a pair, and she said about £50...EmbarrassedEmbarrassed

she then qualified this by saying that she saved money by making a lot of her own clothes...but that doesn't help my initial 'guess'

BREAKING NEWS!!!

Unfortunately, Kington Show 2008 has been cancelled, owing to the fields having been waterlogged over the weekend...

Sadly, all those of you who were thinking of exhibiting their prize sheep or had committed to entering the Young Farmer's tractor race, will now have to wait until 2009... your money will be refunded....Disapprove

The average would be based on the number of legs that LJS had at the time, not on a fraction calculated on how many legs he may or may not have had at some point in his life. So he could be a 2 or a 1 depending on the time (or perhaps a 1.5 if the percentage was calculated at the exact time of the aforementioned 'misadventure'.  My head hurts now.
This all reminds me of the Pete 'n' Dud sketch about the one legged man auditioning for Tarzan. LOL

There is always the possibility that Long John Silver kept his removed leg, possibly in a chest or locker, in which case he would still have been in possession of two legs, even if one of them was no longer suitable for its intended purpose, though it could still prove useful in an arse-kicking contest, a situation where monopedes are generally disadvantaged if the old adage is to be believed.

On the other hand, maybe Jake is just bragging.
What?
