now listening to Isis's 'In The Absence Of Truth'.

Quite a departure from 'Oceanic' and 'Panopticon' in that the sound/performance is so propulsive and light compared to the lavasludge crush of the previous two.  Still takes some getting used to for me but it does have its charms.............

When I first got a hold of In The Absence of Truth, Garden of Light got played at least 5 times a day for more than a month straight.

Itsa nice album but the production leeves a lot to be desired IMO, the guitars dont have any bite to them. The materiel sounds excellent live, though.

Just got Yakuza's Transmutations albu, brilliant stuff!

ive got yakuza's samsara and im digging it. love the jazz influence.
ITAoT is nice, but i agree the guitars have no force at all. cool drumming but it all gets a little repetative. and i really dislike the vocals and the entire album. did like Firdous E Bareen and the short spacey number quite a lot however. im deleting my review of that album and rewriting it, i almost completely disagree with what i wrote.

^I rather like the vocals on that album. Got to say, though, I prefer Cult of Luna with this style of Post Metal.

the distorted guitar parts were i thinked mixed a lil too low so its frustrating somewhat......... like u KNOW that bit is supposed to be more crushing but isn't..............

but the paradoxical thing is that i keep wantin to go back to listen again hahahaha.............i wouldnt wanna say that Isis pussed out when you know they are tryg to do something diff from the post-metal beast they helped birth...........

yeah i dont know why i dont like the vocals. . . the mellower ones are alright but not great and the growling (always a weak point of isis's post imo) were just a little too samesy throughout.
Cult of Luna is rising fast thought on my charts. reeeaallly like somewhere along the highway. def. better than newer isis (post oceanic)

Really Mike? That makes me happy to see! Somewhere along the highway is in my top five favorite albums of all time, absolutely genious.
I like Aaron Turner's growl, even on the pitiful in the absence of truth.

The last time they toured here was on their tour for salvation, which was almost four years ago, so no I havent seen them, but their supposedly coming to the states this time around, and there will be nothing stopping me from seeing them.

Man, I haven't listened to Isis in forever.  I must rectify the situation.

I remember In The Absence Of Truth being notably different from their earlier material.

ahahah took me so long but of late i have been playin it and hey hey hey it DOES somehow work itself out eventually as a good transitional album, where Isis are leaving behind the sludge and movin into something more proggy n' propulsive...........but Holy Tears does manage to crush quite beautifully...........
