Oh, good god, I hear that song twice a day every day during the week and it drives me nuts, some of the worst lyrics I've come across. WTF does Elvis have to do with anything! ![]() Excuse me whilst I find something avant garde to drive it from my memory. ![]() |

What the SFG fella is saying is
I wish is was me you chose, I wish it was me, Elvis isn't dead, and you're coming back to me.
In other words, if I can pretend that Elvis isn't dead , then I can pretend that you still love me.
See? it's about heartbreak and desperation.
For the love of God, I never though I would have to explain some jangly pop song to anyone in the shed. Go back to your avant garde, your pseudo intellectual nonsense twaddle if this 'ere pop is too tricky for you!
![]() Elvis isn't Dead, great song, now if you hear it twice a day (what, everyday?) you are annoyed by the tune rather than the lyrical content? (I assume as you didn't understand the context of Elvis)
is it all catchy pop that upsets you, or just this song?
Does anyone else get upset by "Pop Music" anyone need a lay down? Really there is some s h i t e out there in Pop world, but Scouting for Girls are pretty good pop, a bit like Badly Drawn Boy a couple of years ago, (what happened to them?) they write, play and sing their own songs. that's a long way from the Atomic Kitten end of the spectrum! Good Pop is a treasure in the sea of rubbish!
I had a lovely day off! Hooorah!

^^^ Yes, what did happen to Badly Drawn Boy..?? They were pretty good. I had one of their albums, but have since lost it. I was loooking for it the other week. I think it was 'Have you fed the fish today' The soundtrack to 'About a boy' was pretty good too.
But honestly, Scouting for Girls!!! ![]() Good pop for me in recent times would be Keane, KT Tunstall, and Amy McDonald at a push.. |

![]() ![]() ![]() Nice one Rach - we may be absolutely justified in considering our choice of music to be superior to radio-fodder, but that is not to say all pop music is bad, or to judge it because of its popularity. OK - here it comes: 1 - I like 'Rock Star' - a great rocky pop song taking the p ![]() 2 - Whilst most boy bands can quite happily fester in the rubbish pits of their own mediocrity, Take That were bloody good at what they did. 2a - I like a lot of Robbie Williams's early solo material (in fact if you ever get the chance to hear the thrash metal version he did of Take That's 'Back For Good', I can guarantee you'll chuckle) 3 - The Osmonds were rubbish, though ![]() |

Love it - there are so many bands here who fit that description, we'd have enough for a separate "Pseudo Intellectual Nonsense Twaddle" genre. Mind you, we'd then have all the arguments about "are so & so band Pseudo Intellectual Nonsense Twaddle Related?" or "are this band Proto-Pseudo Intellectual Nonsense Twaddle?" |

I also support pc's sentiment, a great pop tune can be as satisfying as anything and is a craft not every composer is suited to

did any of you have an irritating pop song that persisted inside your head for months..?
![]() such as... KT Tunstall "suddenly i see", Daniel Power "bad day", "she's so loverly" and that "bring on the girls" song....

I must admit a liking for Miss Tunstall.. ![]() However, that Daniel Power song is toe curling..if it's the song I'm thinking of. Capital punishment FM used to play that song, what seemed like 20 times a day. Certainly gave me a bad day. It was as catchy as syphilus, and equally unpleasant... ..so I've been told.... ![]() |

Somebody leant my father that Scouting for Girls album ages ago... he played it and erm... didn't enjoy it one bit! Neither did I. Every song sounded very much the same, the premise of every song was pretty much the same too. They take "emo" to a new level!
Every song seems to be: I love you, but you won't let me in, I feel sad. And yes Steve, Nickelback's song is currently stuck in my head, along with that "Here Come the Girls" twaddle. I think I also need my avant-garde pseudo-intellectual twaddle that actually isn't twaddle or pseudo-intellectual! Oh god, I do know that Daniel Power song... Steve, I'd got that OUT of my head, until you just mentioned it again! It's used in a Lynx advert isn't it? |

Erm, the song is called Jilted John (as is the artist aka John Shuttleworth aka whatever his real name is) and not Gordon is a Moron.
Sorry to put my pedants hat on but I like to correct such matters. ![]() Good song though... but I noticed it is being used in an advert at the moment, so I may just start to dislike it a little bit. |

and why is James wrong? Because he's not old enough to have sang 'I'm so upset' to TOTP back in 1978...
ergo, he's not old enough to be in the shed....
