Though they don't really fit in on the Tech category, but still worth checking out.

Would you guys consider Machine Head's "The Blackening" a bit prog? I think they could fit into the tech/extreme category.

Slipknot was very good, explosions, fire, lifts ...  set list was Surfacing, The Blister Exists, Get This, Before I Forget, Disasterpiece, Pyschosocial, Heretic Anthem, Prosthetics, Duality, People=sh*t, Sic... Really enjoyed it.

Enjoyed Machine Head too, though their set was way to short...they played: "Clenching the fists of dissent," "Imperium," "Halo," and "Davidian."

I'm purchasing my ticket sometime this week (maybe tommorow). I've seen Machine Head once already, fantastic show. My mom's worried about all the drinking that'll be going on around us. Were there anyone signing autographs? (Please say Machine Head was Big%20smile)

Be honest I was looking to see if anyone was signing anything... but they had tents all over the place so I'm sure some of that was going on, the schedule is tight so if you side track yourself you could miss one or two of the bands.

Tell your mom that most of the audience was under the age of 21 and they didn't allow alcohol at the Hot Topic or Jagermeister stage area..

So does anyone else think that Machine Head would fit well with this genre?

Not really, IMHO. The Blackening is a cool album, but it's only marginally more prog than, say, Metallica ever were. It'll be interesting to see if they continue in that direction, though.

I don't see a lot of discussion of the progressive black metal bands like Negura Bunget or Deathspell Omega, which is too bad. Fas - Ite Maledicti in Ignem Aeternum is prog in every way... just amazing.

you said it brother!  Machine Head bores me.  however, Deathspell Omega is my favorite black metal band- easily!  they are very, very progressive, especially their song off of the "crushing the holy trinity" comp.  I think it is called Diabolus Absconditis, a 20+ minute epic track!
