So. I've ben lately loving albums such as Drama, Duke and "A".

I find the three of the albums very unique and with great overlooked material.

Drama having a new singer and keyboard player. This is a very Howe oriented album, full of heavy guitars(at least for Yes). Also I consider this album the last album with the Great bass playing of Chris. A Relayer oriented album filtered with some few 80's new wave influences.

Duke already left Steve, here we got what many think Phil's era best album, or at least the only prog one. We got much more pop influences than Drama, but still we got nice pair of prog tracks and unique cause having a more 80's keys feel.

"A" though Tull is a Folk Prog band here we got much more a electronic prog album.(not derivating from the sub-genre but for the keys). Also very Unique at cause of Eddie Jobson's guest appearance. Full of odd keys(for Tull of course) and a new great add, the electric violin. Maybe the Folk traditions are left behind but the new material is very good, there's not really a highlight like in Duke or Drama, but we got a close one to be, Black Sunday.

Anyone that shares my same tastes? Any more 1980 albums from classic 70's bands? Share and discuss.

I'd tell you Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures, Signals, Grace Under Pressure, Power Windows, Hold Your Fire, and Presto from Rush.  But experience tells me that that will fall on deaf ears.

Levitation     Hawkwind   1980  Tim Blake (Gong) Ginger Baker (Cream) join the Hawks for the first ever fully Digital Recorded Album and What a Classic it is 5 Stars
Know one should be with out this Classic in there Collection.
5%20stars Metal that floats?

Levitation is much tighter than any of the previously released material, and obviously takes some inspiration from the NWOBHM that was happening back then. Lemmy, who had been the mainstay from "Doremi..." up to "Warrior..." was having a huge success with the now legendary Motorhead, and the seminal "Ace Of Spades", so it was only right that his previous band should want to try and grab a slice. I'm not saying this album is heavy metal, but I do know a lot of fans of heavy metal who own this as their solitary Hawkwind album!

"Levitation" is a fine mix of heavy guitars, spacey synths - courtesy of Tim Blake, who featured on many Gong albums, and beautiful light and shade. The production is not overbearingly eighties, which helps this album remain timeless. "Levitation" is a perfectly balanced Hawkwind album, unlike any of the others - there is not one other that does not contain a rough edge or a "loose" track. If you never buy another Hawkwind album, you should buy this - especially if you like the heavier side of rock.

As far as I'm concerned, Permanent Waves is one of the best albums that was ever released, and Peter Gabriel's Melt isn't that far behind.  Two extremely good live albums were released that year in Yesshows and Supertramp's Paris.  You already know about the uneven but interesting Duke and Drama.  Turn of a Friendly Card is probably the best Alan Parson's Project release except for the first one and well worth your attention (although I prefer Eve, I'm probably in the minority.)

Residents: Commercial Album

Over land and under ashes
In the sunlight, see - it flashes
Find a fly and eat his eye

It's a good album, good musicianship, but never really liked it, but I must admit it has good songwriting.

I dare to say A Momentary Lapse of Reason
It has, as many know I said in other threads, a neo prog feel. Just like Duke, even though both remaining much more the AOR sound it has the clear 80's keyboard sound of neo-proggers, though these lacking of majesty, while Neo keyboardist as in Marillion or Pendragon they're great, and use moog.

AMLOR is a very very underrated Pink Floyd album. While no doubt it's lacking of Masterpieces as DSOTM, Meddle, Animals, etc had, this is a very good realese. Roger is gone with his depressing feelings. No offense Antoine

Brother Where You Bound is my fave Supertramp album too! And yeah, it's there most progressive, behind Crime and then Moments.

"A" rules! Never liked Broadsword. You forgot Crest, that I prefer it over Broadsword, even though having a Dire Straits feel, I think it's also unique, a very good ROCK album.

Danger Money is from 1979, Eddie was there and then he went with Tull to get into "A".

Haven't heard ELPowell, but I'm sure it's as good as Black Moon.

Asia!?!? Yep, prepare the crucifixion... Excellent voice? I think it's John's worst vocal perfomance ever! hehe

You know I haven't heard The Pros and the Cons of Hitch Hiking, was planning to, but if it's depressing, I better cross it out of my purchase list.

If you say Duran Duran, I say INXS
