...had a strange hobby

Well, hello everybody. I don't feel like a newbie, I've been lurking around for ages, but thought I'd make a little noise now.

I love this place. It's opened up a whole world of stuff I just didn't realise was out there. I've always been into a bit of prog, the obvious I guess, Floyd, Crimson, Yes, Genesis, but I didn't realise there was THIS much out there!A lot of it new, too...

Anyway, that's it, just wanted to say hello and tell you all that you all rule!

seriously though... it is a friendly place... with enough blood letting, personal feuds, epic tantrums, massive flameouts, and posts that boggle the rational mind to make  this forum real interesting and keeps it from turning into some hippy lovefest

Never Mind the Bollocks has been one of my favourites albums since, well, pretty much since it was released.  Johnny Rotten famously 'dissed' Pink Floyd as it had come to represent the industry/ had mainstream commercial appeal (and punk rock was about being anti-establishment) , but he did respect and enjoy people/ bands like Captain Beefheart, Peter Hammill, Can, Third Ear Band, Henry Cow, David Bowie and others.

Here's a neat list of albums he chose back in '77.  I have to admire his taste.

I believe he did, and it';s not surprising. And I would imagine that he would have enjoyed, especially, early Pink Floyd music quite a bit.  The rather ironic thing, perhaps, is that the punk ethos was supposed to be so anti-establishment, anarchic, stick it to the man (and I do think that Pink Floyd also represented the establishment -- mainstream music industry --  for him at that time) yet bands such as The Sex Pistols were commercial and marketed themselves (worked in the establishment).  Of course, image was so important to punk, and led people to say that they really didn't stand for anything.  Later on he did Public Image Limited.

Incidentally, some of my favourite lines from music is from  The Sex Pistols.  Does a lyrics search, and this is not a line I can find from Anarchy in the UK?  Haven't listened to it many years, but I thought it went like this, and I thought it was brilliant.

I just want to kick in some heads

It could be that that was my own made-up version of the song, and I've subsequently forgotten.  I remember a poli-sci class where the prof was a huge Sex Pistols fan, and I said that.

I like all of the albums I know off Lydon's list considerably.  I probably made up the lyrics based on "Anarchy in the UK" and then confused them with reality.  It happens to me.

I love Spinal Tap, and not just for the movie.  Hilarious, and my favourite concert was seeing them play live.  Nigel Tufnel is a god! ;)

Nigel Tufnel: [on what he would do if he couldn't be a rock star] Well, I suppose I could, uh, work in a shop of some kind, or... or do, uh, freelance, uh, selling of some sort of, uh, product. You know...

Have you heard the album Break like the Wind? Great stuff.
They had a terrific site, which, sadly,went under some years ago, but has been archived with plenty of mp3s:
