Ah, thanks. Smile

Quote they're hard to find but you should be able to scrounge them up somewhere. and if you find a place post it here because i would like to get my hands on an original.

Don't worry, in this age of internet shopping I should be able to buy some of their stuff anyway. Albums by a band that's this famous among prog fans shouldn't be that hard to find anyway, I hope.Wink

also, Oceansize, not  a fan, i got 'frames' a while back, tryed to listen to it a few times but just couldnt get into it, really didnt hit me as anything too proggy, except for they'er meshuggah thing of "sleeping dogs and dead lions", ill try give it a listen 2moro on the bus to college but im pretty sure i wont dig it

on the lighterside, i must say im loving *Shels, only have they'er album so far, but i like her...i even sent in a voice clip thing for they'er next album *crosses fingers* Embarrassed

if this topic concerns both experiemental AND post-metal, i must say i really dig the whole gritty low ass riff'ing in post metal, but really hate the steriotypical screamo/growling sh*tty vocals that normally acompany it

shels seem to get the balance right, and have more'so clean vocals(which i personly prefer) but other bands ive listend to in that section of progarchives just scare me off with they'er stale un-inspired same'ness

There are a couple of bands in Post Metal who are breaking the Neurosis/Isis/Pelican mold and putting there own spin on the genre.Check out:

Grayceon
The Pax Cecilia
Giant Squid
Irepress
Yakuza

There are some great bands in this genre, give them a chance and you will find some gems among all the imitators.

And btw...Dark Suns "Grave Human Genuine" and Day Without Dawn's album "Understanding Consequences" are two of the best releases I have heard this year, regardless of genre.

Just bought Devin Townsend's Ziltoid The Omniscient. Man, I love this guy, and I haven't been able to put this album down since I've gotten it.

^ YES! Hevy Devy struck gold with ziltoid. Its not my favorite devin townsend cd but it is growing fast. he took the best of both his solo output and strapping your lad and put out one monster of an album.

Agr'd as for DWD, but I've NEVER heard DARK SUNS. I guess they're more Doom/Gothic-inspired Metal, than Post-Rocky one?

im a lil' hasty with Ziltiod, not the worst not the best, its got some real cool parts, except the fact that its almost made like a movie kinda makes re-listens slightly annoying,

it comes to a point where you've heard the lines so many times they start to get annoying, just like when you've watched an episode of some show or a movie way too many times and then see it again shortly after seeing it last, you know exactly whats commin next and it spoils the pleasure of it, however i think this only applys to the parts where its pure conversational dialog between ziltoid and the humans

may we also discuss the "Devlab" here?... oh my...devin, what were you thinking? i dont want to be hasty with saying its sh*t, cos i love devin so much, and i dont want to say something then a few years later regret it, but from the listens ive given it i really cant get around it, and its almost like a joke half the time....im gonna melt you guys...

Dark Suns first album, Swanlike, is the closest I've heard anyband getting to imitate Opeth's sound, though without the acoustics guitar parts being so prominant (Infact, I think they're nearly none existent, though some very laid back clean guitar parts are regular), but its not just a copy, there's a definite sense of uiqness too it. I cant speak about their second album, Existenze, as I dont have it, but Grave Human Genuine (third album) is simply mind blowing. Very different with almost no growls left and completely unique, though I guess the Doom/Gothic inspired metal makes for a good loose description. Best album of the year for me form a band that is quite definitely progressing.

"Now, being hailed as the ultimate 4th dimensional guitar hero, Ziltoid feels confident in his complete victory.

But, Captain Spectacular has seen through Ziltoid’s façade and now sets out to expose Ziltoid for what he really is…a nerd.
A nerd…"

Hahaha, I love this album. I think Terria is my favorite of his so far though.

Indeed! "The Undertide" is simply amazing.

What about Infinity?

do you mean, your wondering if Infinity comes closer to terria?

no chance man, infinity is way more up-beat metal'ish, there isnt as much kinda lush ambiance in it alike terria, the only tracks that come close to it are unity and dynamics

Hummer is boring, music to go to sleep by.

But I am not a big fan of ambient music anyway.

I second that...Hummer is a waste of cash.

Just adding some input on Dark Suns...I found 'Swanlike' to be a criminally underrated album of the bunch. It was a classic along with the next two, although I haven't given the new one much of a listen.

Fans of Dark Suns might want to check out Disillusion?

I'd like to reserect this thread with a recommendtion for Drawns A New World? An excellent album in the vein of In the Woods, not surprising being and offshoot, and might appeal to thos ethat didnt particuarly like the vocals of In the Woods.

Plus, I've just doen a review of Dark Suns Grave Human Genuine.
