Just to clarify, this thread is in support of all those bands in the Experimental/Post metal genre that arent Post metal as they have their own thread with post rock (though if you think its prudent to mention one of those bands here, please do).
This collection of bands is quickly becoming my favourite side to prog, what with the likes of maudlin of the Well, Kayo Dot and Indukti, even if some of them have very little in commen. Now, Tool, Anathema, Green Carnation, Indukti, Grayceon etc are all excellent bands but lets hear about other bands in the genre that could do with a bit of support. I'll get the ball rolling with an album I've ben listening to alot lately, Dark Suns Grave Human Genuine, its an absolute gem and currently running The Mars Volta's Bedlam in Goliath very close for my favourite album of the year so far. So, thoughts, comments, protestations, expleitivs? Edited by sleeper - August 09 2008 at 08:22 |

Glad to hear you like the new Dark Suns album Andy,it is already one of my Album of the Year candidates.
There are a couple other bands in this genre that need some attention:
Day Without Dawn
Kekal (HIGHLY recommended, especially their last two albums)
Yakuza
Virgin Black
The Chronicles of Israfel

I know what you mean, even the bonus track 29 is excellent (not often that we get quality bonus tracks, they're normally demo's or songs that deserved to be cut from the album). Thanks for mentioning Virgin Black, Requiem-Mezzo Forte is a great album. |

You got that right. Best band I've ever heard so far this year and I think it's gonna stay that way for a long time. |

I'm having a bit of a problem regarding the vocals, for it sounded whinny. I'll give it a few spins more, see if the album grows on me. |

I have, I was looking for a second opinion. It does sound interesting but I cant really get my head around the concept of a band that sounds like a mix of Tool, PT, TMV, Oceansize, Dredge and Coheed and Cambria (especially since I dont know the last two). |

never liked IN THE WOODS...just not my stuff. Has anyone heard of PAN THY MONIUM? Dan Swano's brutal experimental stuff. I've found their last album in the pile of the second-hand/cheap CDs in local store only for 1 $!

I have their 3 albums listed in PA, all music that I love; heavy, intricate, complex, sometimes weird.
Khaooohs & Kon-Fus-ion especially, while not too long an album, has great tunes and the sax parts are great addition to the atmosphere.
