Actually during a windstorm a few years back and my house didn't get power back for a full 8 days.  School started back up by that point, so I had to shower in the dark every morning for a few days.  It became a much more difficult task to get my hair looking good in the mornings Unhappy

Very funny.  I live in rural Gloucestershire and regularly get brief outages.  As you say the main inconvenience is having to reset all the electronic guff that we seem to acquire.
 
The last long term outages that I remember were in the early 70s when we had coal strikes and powere station shut downs.
When people get lost in thought it's often because it's unfamiliar territory.

When Katrina hit us, my power was out for two weeks and I live in the suburbs of a fairly big city.  People out on in the sticks had power off for a fair amount longer.
