Who is your favourite jazz guitarist in either big band music or softer jazz? I have to go with Wes Montgomery, but who are you in favour of?

Pat Metheny is my favourite, but I might be biased because of his brilliant compositional skill. Judging purely speed, the best could be any member of the Guitar Trio: Paco De Lucia, John McLaughlin, or Al Di Meola.

On my list. I would recommend BL's tribute to Frank Sinatra  for its unusualness wrt Lagrene , since he does interesting jazz vocals on this recording  too!

Whilst talking acoustic playing, check out Italian guitarist Antonio Forcione, once confusingly written up by a critic as the 'Jimi Hendrix of the acoustic guitar' - his live album is very impressive.
