Topic: "The Fountain" Appreciation Thread Posted: January 14 2008 at 23:31 |
I recently saw this movie and thought it was amazing, definitely one of my favourite movies. The plot, the message and symbolism and the soundtrack (written by clint mansell, performed by mogwai and kronos quartet) were great, and the fact that it was done on such a low budget just blew me away. Has anyone else seen this movie/wish to share their experience with it?

It's one of my favorites. And one of only 2 movies I cried during/soon after (the other was Titanic and I was young then, in my defense. :) )

That's okay, it's a good reason. I actually didn't like Titanic too much. Anyway, yeah, it's really that moving. I didn't cry but I felt like I was.

agreed. I heard it described somewhere as a "psychedelic fairytale", which I think fits perfectly. Does anyone know of any similar movies? I'd love to see them. I've seen Daron Aronovsky's other two movies and liked them but I think The Fountain is the best thing he's directed so far. Also, what do you guys think of the soundtrack? It was composed by Clint Mansell, and Mogwai, who is a post rock band on this site played on it with the Kronos Quartet.

One of my top 5 favorite movies ever! I remember having make an Aronofsky (the director) poll and there were some votes for the Fountain, but many disliked it or thought it wasn´t a good movie. Well, to each its own... I for one think it´s an absolute masterpiece and would write a 5 stars review if this was Moviearchives.com

I haven't seen the movie; what is it about? as to crying in a movie: I always have to cry when watching the burial scene of Walt Disney's "Snow White". I know it is ridiculous, but I can't help it

Its a love story set in a past, a present and a future and its always the "same" couple... I can´t tell you more than that ´cause I might say too much, but I highly recommend it! The final future scene is so beautiful you can´t blink. I always have to think of Tool´s Lateralus... it makes sense... for me at least

It's hard to say what exactly it's about, as its rather confusing, but I recommend you just watch it and take your own meaning from it, as it's the type of movie where you can do that.

Weird movie. Kind of hard to follow in the beginning, but very beautiful in a sad way.

I think the plot becomes easier to follow as time goes by, but I agree as I was pretty confused in the beginning. That movie also makes me want to listen to post-rock for some reason, maybe because of Mogwai being on the soundtrack.

Not to sound pretentious or something, but it´s not that hard to follow
